i’d like to know if i can edit plex to open in another browser rather than my default browser? the reason i ask is when i’m browsing i like to be able to clear my cache and cookies out every so often. i’m afraid if i do so while streaming to my tv i’ll be logged out of plex and have to log back in to continue my movie or show on the tv. thanks
A browser is only a window to the Plex Media Server. I’m pretty sure clearing your browser cookies and cache will have zero effect on the interaction between the Server and any Client (your TV).
You may have to log back into PMS with the browser though.
If you are talking about Plex Web, you can open that in any browser. If you are referring to Windows and the “Open Plex” option from the system tray, that uses your default browser. No way to change that.
Clearing your browser cache does not affect PMS. It will affect Plex Web and you will need to log back in.
Just copy the program shortcut to the browser of your choice.
Edit it and append the address of the web app
Here is an example for Chrome
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" http://127.0.0.1:32400/web/
Cleaning the browser data without defining exceptions for the plex domains plex.tv
, *.plex.direct
and 127.0.0.1 will cause you losing all preferences for the web app.
You will also need to log in again to your plex.tv account afterwards.
thanks guys for the help and the input, thanks to one of you on twitter i got the stand alone app which will work perfectly for what i actually want to do, which is to add the tv as a secondary monitor to the pc and have plex just run on that . thanks again, and by the way GREAT program.
