I know this has been requested for 10 years or so, but is there any chance that the ability to edit the cast will be added? I have movies that do not exist outside my server and I definitely want to list the people in the movies, but it is impossible to do. I also have some fan-edits of movies and would like to be able to add the actual cast members to those as well.
(None of the tags seemed at all appropriate to this question, but I guess web-shows is the closest)
You actually can get Plex to read the embedded tags of videos in mp4/m4v/mov containers – including cast, director, writer…
In such a case you just need to make sure to tell your Plex library to consider that information. I’ve been doing this for a lot of my home videos (helps me keeping track of which videos include parents, grandparents, kids). Considering Plex doesn’t know those “actors”, you will however not get any profile pictures etc.
If you had those videos already added to your library, you might need to perform a Plex Dance to get Plex to read the embedded tags again (I believe Plex only reads those once but does not consider them when refreshing metadata).
Works the same way with the same limitations.
Keep in mind that the name alone does not allow Plex to match a person in an online repository (e.g. check out Roger Moore from the James Bond movies to learn there’s been another actor born in 1900 with the same name…).
Yeah, just adding the names isn’t that useful for actual actors. I guess I will have to go dig trough the database file and do this all myself, manually.
