I see that EyeTV is a popular plug-in request, a plus side to supporting EDL is EyeTV stores manual edit markings with this format as well, making manual commercial marking an option as well.

Old request... Valid request...
Have you guys tried enabling it in advancedsettings.xml to see if it isn't already working?

@atrus, this didn’t work for me.

Ok. It was worth a shot ![]()
Can’t you transform the EDL into a chapter-format, basically giving you the same result? AFAIK, chapters in files are now supported.

I’m not sure the edl request will ever die until Plex integrates it. The external processing isn’t nearly as refined.
+1 edl support for bookmarks without file cutting.
Here a script to convert and embed the EDL markers as Chapters which Plex supports.
Or
So chapter marking takes away the need to cut the video but it still requires a lot of processing and a new video file. EDL support would be far superior as it would not require a new video file.
Thank you for the chapter references though. Using the chapters on some clients seems to be a little touch and go so I’ll play with it a bit more and see if it’s worth doing. Plex web uses [ and ] for chapter jumping, fyi.

It would still require a lot of processing power even with the EDL because the only way to use the EDL would be to invoke the Transcoder and have it skip the commercial pieces.
At least with Chapters you could avoid the Transcoder on Direct Play compatible media and merely jump to the next chapter.
Me personally I wouldn’t want to keep the commercials for no other reason than to save the Storage space…
EDLs are best used to edit the original pre-Plex Library and it’s something I wish Handbrake supported.

using mkvpropedit to add the Chapter markers takes almost no processing power and is done in seconds.
See: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/1255617/#Comment_1255617
You can also use MKVToolsNix and MKVMerge to add the chapters to the file without the need to transcode.
Takes just minutes.
still would like to see this support come to Plex especially with DVR being able to use comskip to make an edl file, if it needs to be edited it can then be done manually without reprocessing the file even if it can be done with mkvpropedit I would very much like the idea of external chapter support EDL or XML would be fine.

I’m going to bump this thread a bit… maybe it will ‘spark’ plex to bring back ( a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…) .edl support.
Yes, chapters are now supported, so we could add in the chapters based on the .edl file, but why add that step at all? Simply have the server recognize that an .edl file is present and skip that portion in the playback…
Surely that can’t be that difficult to implement (says the guy who does not code)…

Now that the DVR records in TS again which can’t contain chapters I think external chapter support like EDL or XML is even more important to reduce the actions needed for post processing especially on low powered devices.
Can this feature please be given higher priority?
Using EDL files is a much more efficient option for Commercial Skipping vs. reprocessing an entire OTA recording and cutting out the (potentially incorrect) commercial breaks. EDL file support also allows users to skip back and watch portions that were incorrectly clipped from a recording, which is the case on about 90% of the shows I record.
A request for the same feature exists already, and it has more votes.
