As I have a family member who is an actor and whom has played many supporting roles, I would like to add their name to the movies and TV shows for which they have acted in, but not starred. This would make it easy for me and my family then to search for and identify all movies and TV shows for which he has acted, whether a starring or supporting role. This could be a new Tag called Supporting Actors which is exposed as part of Tags when editing the movie or TV Show. Then add a new search field called Supporting Actors.
From what I’ve experienced, Plex usually has the full cast incl. uncredited actors available to search/filter. So your best shot is to check if that family member of yours is actually listed on those movies (IIRC Plex is getting cast information from The Movie Database).
Plex does not distinguish between starring or supporting roles.
Edit: I stand corrected… while they all seem to be available to search, Plex seems to make a cut when it comes to filtering by actors.
I appreciate that insight. Out of 9 movies my father-in-law is in, he is only listed in 6 of them. Granted one is a short which is not even listed in IMDB.
Can I add or he add himself to the missing movies in The Movie Database?
Be careful to follow their guidelines or your changes might be reversed by some of the other users.
Really? From what I’ve seen Plex’s new TV agent displays far fewer supporting cast than the old TVDB agent does. Is has even gone down since it was introduced. Shows originally added with the new agent lose cast if I do a metadata refresh now.
@ltcolumbo0 : I would probably just make a manual collection myself of all those titles.
I’m not sure about that.
I’ve just checked with some of the Lord of the Rings movies (mostly because they have a massive cast). It appears the full cast from TMDb including the “uncredited” ones is showing on the movie’s page. I can search for all of them – just the filter appears to be limited by some algorithm (not sure if it’s # of credits, listing in top-3 of the cast of a movie…).
Yeah, I’ve found the movie agent is okay. I’m talking specifically about the TV agent.
Thanks to all.
Originally I didn’t want to use the Collections feature because I either had to Hide All Items or Show both the Collections and their Items. However I just discovered the ability to do that per collection with the Collection Mode in Advanced and this solves my problem of wanting to mostly hide items in Collections and yet display the items in other collections.
You can adjust/override the collection visibility for each collection (
> Advanced)
