Is it possible to group Movies together to provide a single entry to it? TV Shows do this with seasons, but if you add Movies to your Movies directory it will list them all separately. I want to have control over the grouping, like having a ton of Harry Potter movies under a single listing and accessing them like I do TV shows, but in Movies. Does this make sense?
No way to do this currently apart from the Multiple Libraries/Sort Title Field method:
Alien Movies, for instance, use the Sort Title:
‘Alien YEAR’
where YEAR is the year of release in the file name:
Alien (1979).xxx
This effectively places them side-by-side in your library and that’s about the best we can do.
You can employ ‘Collections’, but many of us feel those are cumbersome to create and deal with.
Well that sucks. Thanks guys.

If your Movies are named the same, but the name also contains the files resolution or other details, then Plex will group them together as one Movie in your library. Plex will also display a small number in a blue rectangle in the top left corner of the Movie’s poster that signifies how many copies of the Movie there are in that group.EG:
Lethal Weapon (1987) 1080p.mp4
Lethal Weapon (1987) 720p.mp4
Lethal Weapon (1987) Directors Cut.mp4All of the above would be grouped together as one Movie in your library.
You should note, that Movies that are grouped together like this cannot be individually selected, meaning if you attempt to play this Movie, Plex may select any one of the files to play.
If you restrict grouped Movies to those of different resolutions only, then Plex will attempt to choose the correct resolution for your Plex client device.
That would be ‘The Same Movie’ with multiple ‘Versions’.
In that case you can ‘Play Version’, right?
I’m usually dealing with these guys in a Plex Device App, with the ‘Over and Under’ Play Button, but that’s the Plexweb/PMP method…
I had too, until recently when I started employing PMP through the old HDMI/Mouse Extension Cable to the TV Trick for those untamed DTS audio conversions that refuse to submit to my will and come up with the Low Dialog Problem. Turning on that Windows DRC Enhancement cures that issue immediately.
Most of the time I’m using the ‘Over and Under’ button in a Plex Device App, but we do what we must to co-exist with The Beast, don’t we?

Am I missing something here?
What about a Harry Potter playlist?

Playlists/Collections - same… Cumbersome, IMO.
But… if that’s how you co-exist with The Beast - good on ya.

As a Plex Pass holder, you can add your vote for a better Collections solution by clicking ‘Like’ on the first message in this thread.
