Tried scheduling a new series on PBS that starts Sunday called “World on Fire” on Masterpiece. Plex did not want to record it as it is not marked as new. I adjusted to record all new and repeat episodes and then selected the time slot that correlated with when new episodes are released. It is a work around and I will edit each file to get an episode number but the EPG should provide this info so I don’t have to work around. Is there a different way to schedule this so it won’t record repeat episodes?
Thanks for reporting this. I will refer it to our provider - as same issue will arise for the 13th April
Is it sunday 13th 20:00 MDT ?
There is also an airing at 02:00 am MDT on 14th - do you know if that is repeat?
There are also airings at 1am MDT on Tuesday 7 April and Thursday 9th April 23:00
and is the one the next day also new
With regards to repeat recordings - if Plex Media Server detects that it has the same episode already in the library then it would not repeat record even when the option to allow new and repeats is used.
It is Broadcast TV Salt Lake City/Surro OTA Broadcast.
The sunday 13th 20:00 MDT will be episode 2. All the other times listed will be repeats of either episode 1 or 2.
I did notice that on Saturday April 4th the guide data updated the airing on April 5 to be set as new with Season 1 Episode 1 in the guide. Wonder if PBS updates with more detailed info at a delayed rate and then TiVo updates it afterwards?
There is always a lag - initial data from the channel may not have all the information. Then data changes need to get to our provider and they ingest it, that then feeds into a daily file which we ingest and then Plex Media Server updates the guide - the automatic updates being as part of scheduled tasks
@sa2000 There is a problem for today’s (5/3) broadcast as well. Not marked new.
I’m also in Salt Lake with the same OTA lineup as @hardverk.
The one on 5/10 seems to marked as new, though.
Typically the Sunday airing is the new episode, with several rebroadcasts through the week of the Sunday episode.
Note that this is a recurring problem with shows on PBS. I record a number of Masterpiece and other shows from PBS and this happens frequently. I don’t know if this is an issue with thinking they are a repeat of the UK show that was typically broadcast some time before they are shown in the US on PBS.
I often have to leave my recordings to “new and repeat” and delete any duplicate recordings, since the EPG data is often wrong.
Thanks - I found “World on Fire Masterpiece” on 9.1 KUAC HDTV (PBS Affiliate)
I presume this is the channel your post relates to
I can see the Sunday 4 May (AKDT timezone) does not have the “New” indicator but the one for the subsequent week does.
I have flagged it to our provider.
PS: Please always give channel number and channel name (as well as the other info: zip/lineup/series/airing time) - there are several PBS affiliate channels in the lineup.
More EPG issues with PBS. I have Baptiste on Masterpiece scheduled to record…both new and repeat airings. Tonight, Baptiste on Masterpiece is not marked as new even though it should be. It also isn’t showing as scheduled to record at all. Channel 9.1. Broadcast TV Fairbanks OTA Broadcast. It appears Plex is not connecting the program on tonight as in the “series” even though it has the exact same name. It does show episode six in the expanded metadata…which is correct.
