There is a show that started 5 minutes ago that should be recording but isn’t. I checked the guide and it is stuck on 0% spinning and I have no way to manually record it because the guide doesn’t see it.
A little annoyed because IF I didn’t have cable to see it live, I would have missed it. I know I wouldn’t have been able to see it live in plex (maybe one day), but not even as a recording.
I should say that I was not on the latest version, I did not realize there was a new release, yesterday. I am now on the latest version and the program guide is at 4% updated and it has been going for about 15 minutes. I don’t know why the data takes that long to update. I can only assume that the program data was not up to date which is why nothing is set to be recorded, tonight.
It has been just over 2 hours of guide data being downloaded and it is currently at 68%
Running on Windows Server 2012 R2? Did you just do microsoft updates? If so, I had the same problem. It resolved for me after I re-ran the PMS installer and selected Repair.

No, running on windows 7. I did do updates once I decided I wanted to reboot v restarting plex service, but it is still slow. Also, this doesn’t address the guide data being out of date. Even on an older version of plex it shouldn’t be slow. I would understand if something was fixed in a newer version then it would be relevant information, but even on the latest version it is slow to update.
I was relating my experience earlier this week where my DVR Plex install was for all appearances, hanging on getting the EPG and what I did to get it to work.
Out-of-date or incorrect EPGs are the result of GraceNote data, sadly not much, if anything, that Plex can control.

Well, I like knowing that Plex can’t do anything about it because I know it isn’t on them to fix, but it is pretty frustrating when the guide takes that long to download. I don’t care if it takes a week to download, but being out of date is the bigger problem.
Watching a sporting event, tonight, and I just realized plex isn’t recording it. I checked the guide, it does have my shows for Friday, but it didn’t populate anything for the event, tonight. It is blank as if nothing is there.
Not very reliable…starting to have second thoughts about this setup with all the issues.
Checked last night, guide data wasn’t up to date. I know Plex is limited on what they can do, but it is still frustrating. I clicked to ‘update’ the program data and of course it is still a slow update process. Not sure why this is a manual update process, that does’t make any sense.
Guide data was out of date, yesterday. I don’t know why I have to confirm my channel selection before the guide data syncs. That is part of the problem, it takes a few days, maybe weeks for me to notice my shows didn’t record (I usually don’t watch daily). Then I realize nothing recorded because the guide data was not up to date. Seems a bit odd, to me.
On suggestion I would offer would be to check the Recording Schedule at least weekly. Set a reminder on Saturdays to check it. We shouldn’t have to, but if your recording schedule doesn’t show data for upcoming shows to record for at least the 14 days you know there is a problem. I noticed the other day I only had recordings scheduled for the next 12 days instead of 14. When Plex wasn’t busy recording or Post Processing I rebooted the server, refreshed the EPG, and recordings for the missing two days showed up. Hopefully Plex will get the EPG refresh issue resolved so we don’t have to check but until that is resolved I would rather check the server every week than miss recordings because I had not looked at the recording schedule for three weeks and the EPG had not refreshed during that time.
I do not have to reconfirm my channel selection. Guessing you are deleting the DVR. Try just rebooting the computer/device Plex is running on.
I know this is marked as answered, but after many months of trying to manually update the guide, I finally gave up on it. I am not sure what I am going to do, now. I know their hands are tied, but I know I can’t be the only one having this issue.
As of today, guide data is still a manual process and I can’t keep reminding myself to manually update it, which means shows don’t get recorded and there is no guide data. To top it off, the update process takes forever, it wouldn’t be as big of a deal if I could click the button to update and see the updated list within a few minutes.
The other problem with the download delay is that I will see the percentage jump form 1% to 6% (after several minutes, and when I come back, it failed/didn’t update.
Mine updates every night during the Scheduled Tasks. Go to Settings/Server/Scheduled Tasks. Make sure guide update is selected. The other thing i would suggest is changing the times it runs to a longer timeframe. I have mine set to midnight to 8:00 am.

Ok I will check that next chance I get. When you said ‘scheduled’ in your post from way back, I thought you were referring to scheduling it on my calendar as a reminder to me not in the actual plex server. Thanks, I will let you know.
That was the intent of the original comment back in May. Plex has since resolved an issue that was occurring with their servers receiving guide updates from gracenote which was causing some of the update problems with our Plex servers. If they weren’t getting updates from gracenote we couldn’t get the updates from Plex. Since the posts in May I determined the scheduled tasks on some days apparently was taking longer, probably those days the weekly or every three days tasks run. Since I updated my scheduled task timeframe to midnight to 8:00 I have not had a single time that guide data was not updated every night.

I just checked this and it was already checked, but it had the default times of 2am to 5am, I changed it from midnight to 8am. Hopefully that solves that issue.
As of right now, the guide data is at 4%, I just got on the latest version of the server and I am wondering if that forced a guide download because I didn’t manually attempt to update it.
If you just updated that probably did force the update.
Not sure what is going on with this plex server. I come home to check the DVR and there are 20 some recordings scheduled for tonight, none of which I set. When I click to cancel one of the recordings, it pops up a name of a show I have recorded in the past…for every scheduled recording for tonight (again, that I didn’t set). Almost looks like some type of back end db corruption.
The good news is that it updated guide data up to 8/4. I won’t touch anything, I’m going to see if it picks up shows past 8/4.
I have recordings being recorded that I never selected. I don’t understand this system anymore…
After a server reboot, I have not noticed any recordings that I did not select. Also, the guide appears to be up to date up until my next recording which is set on Aug 4th. I will continue to monitor the update status and recorded shows.
