Episode ordering is ignored

Server Version#: 1.26.2.5797

Season 2 of the real ghostbusters uses the incorrect metadata for episode ordering no matter what i set the override to, its correct on tvdb airing order but will only use tmdb which i correct.

is episode ordering functionality broken?

if i change to the tvdb agent to the library it works as expected

What happens when you set the show to tvdb aired order and then refresh the metadata?

it doesn’t change, it does the refresh whirl but still pulls the movie db stuff

Can you post your server logs then?

ill try to, might be a sec

Plex Media Server Logs_2022-06-09_13-05-25.zip (8.0 MB)

there you go

What are the filenames for those episodes?

Strike that, I figured your problem out. Your file naming needs work. The Real Ghostbusters/Season 3/S03E82 Once Upon A Slime.mp4 is wrong, it should be The Real Ghostbusters/Season 3/The Real Ghostbusters S03E05 Once Upon A Slime.mp4

PS it also looks like you are using embedded metadata, which might be part of the problem too.

Hi,

I only care about season 2 here.

Embedded metadata?

The issue is that the use episode ordering setting from tvdb is ignore and it uses tmdb instead

@drzoidberg33 I can actually confirm this bug, I looked at my library and the ordering does not match the TVDB like it should.

Cool, not just me then.

So now what?

@duranman2000 Not sure what your issue is, please start a new thread for your issue.

@ecto1a2003 I poked one of the Plex employee’s to see if they can provide any further insight.

I’ve experienced this with shows like American Experience and Nova, which are ordered significantly differently on tvdb vs. tmdb. Using the old series scanner with the tvdb agent, the metadata is correct. Using the new tv series scanner and agent, and tvdb episode ordering as library default, the metadata is out of alignment. Explicitly setting tvdb(aired) ordering at the show level has no effect either, even after refreshing metadata.

This issue has kept me from switching my TV library to the new scanner/agent, so I would love to see it resolved.

All the data on TMDB for season 2 of this show is bad, including the external IDs and air dates for episodes we use to match between TMDB and TVDB.

I’ve removed all the bad external IDs for those episodes on TMDB so our data should update within the next day or two with the correct order.

Looks like all the episode titles were changed a little while back on TMDB but not the other data: The Real Ghostbusters S2E1 (1987) - Changes — The Movie Database (TMDB)

That is certainly true and thanks for doing that but the overall issue of the setting being ignored is still there yes?

No, this is the cause of the issue.

Plex metadata ideally has one id for any single episode, which is the data merged from TMDB and TVDB. If we merge two episodes that aren’t the same then this is what happens as we rely on the title and summary from TMDB first, so that’s why it looks like we’re using TMDB ordering when in fact it’s just because we’re using their episode titles.

The only reason we merged these episodes incorrectly is because TMDB had the wrong external TVDB id and the wrong matching air dates.
