Been a plex user for many years and love it but now have a problem. All new material witch I add to plex get the error code 1001 when I try to play it from web and wont play from any other device. There is no problem with the new material, I can play it in VLC. Can someone help me?

  1. Please turn off verbose logging. As mentioned on the settings page, “Verbose logging is only useful to debug specific issues and should only be enabled if requested by support staff.”

Verbose adds too much information to the log files. It makes them difficult to interpret. Also, the files wrap much faster and needed information can be lost.
    Settings → Server_Name → General → Show Advanced
See Reporting Issues with Plex Media Server for additional details.

  2. Plex cannot find some of your files. Verify that the correct path was added to the library. Make sure the drives are available to the system (not spun down, if external that they are powered on, etc). According to Google, “Systemet finner ikke angitt bane” translates to “The system does not find the specified path.”

For example, with Falcon & Winter Soldier:
Jun 28, 2021 23:58:51.402 [12532] ERROR - Couldn't get size of file "Z:\Serier\The Falcon and the Winter Soldier\The.Falcon.and.the.Winter.Soldier.S01E04.The.Whole.World.Is.Watching.1080p.DSNP.WEB-DL.DDP5.1.Atmos.H.264-CMRG\The.Falcon.and.the.Winter.Soldier.S01E04.The.Whole.World.Is.Watching.1080p.DSNP.WEB-DL.DDP5.1.Atmos.H.264-CMRG.mkv": boost::filesystem::file_size: Systemet finner ikke angitt bane: "Z:\Serier\The Falcon and the Winter Soldier\The.Falcon.and.the.Winter.Soldier.S01E04.The.Whole.World.Is.Watching.1080p.DSNP.WEB-DL.DDP5.1.Atmos.H.264-CMRG\The.Falcon.and.the.Winter.Soldier.S01E04.The.Whole.World.Is.Watching.1080p.DSNP.WEB-DL.DDP5.1.Atmos.H.264-CMRG.mkv"

  1. You need to fix your file naming and organization to conform to Plex standards. Otherwise, Plex will have problems recognizing and playing your media.
See Plex Documentation → Naming and Organizing Your Media → Naming and Organizing Your TV Show Files

For example, with Falcon and the Winter Soldier

Current naming is incorrect. You need to use a Season 01 folder instead of the folder with the long download name. The file name is OK. Plex ignores everything after sXXeYY and spaces, periods, and dashes are supported separators.

Z:\Serier
..\The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
....\The.Falcon.and.the.Winter.Soldier.S01E04.The.Whole.World.Is.Watching.1080p.DSNP.WEB-DL.DDP5.1.Atmos.H.264-CMRG
......\The.Falcon.and.the.Winter.Soldier.S01E04.The.Whole.World.Is.Watching.1080p.DSNP.WEB-DL.DDP5.1.Atmos.H.264-CMRG.mkv

This is correct:

Z:\Serier <-- TV Library points here
..\The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
....\Season 01 <-- "Season" must be in English. Use two digits for season number
......\The Falcon and the Winter Soldier - s01e01.mkv

If Plex does not pick up the new structure and naming, Plex Dance the entire show.

Hi,

I dont’t think it is file name that is the problem because Plex findes my media but cant play any new material that I add add to Plex, both series and movies.

If you can see it from the logs, it is Good Girls S4E10 and 11 as well as the movie Lansky that gives error code 1001.

I have tried to remove them from the library, cleaned up packages and database and added again but the problem persists.

Attaches a log where Verbose is turned off

Thanks for the updated log files.

Two issues: Nvidia drivers are out of date and incorrect media organization.

Nvidia Drivers

You need to update your Nvidia drivers for hardware accelerated encoding to function correctly:

Jun 29, 2021 11:12:10.223 [2780] ERROR - [Transcode] [FFMPEG] - The minimum required Nvidia driver for nvenc is 418.81 or newer

Media Naming & Organization

You got lucky. Your naming is not close to Plex standards, and Plex is very picky with TV shows.

Your incorrect naming and organization for Good Girls:
Jun 29, 2021 11:00:54.789 [6548] DEBUG - Updating part with ID=149609 [Z:\Serier\Good Girls\Season 4\Good.Girls.S04E09.1080p.WEB.h264-GOSSIP\Good.Girls.S04E09.1080p.WEB.h264-GOSSIP.mkv

Plex does not support subfolders for each episode (…show_name\season xx\subfolder\episode).

You should reorganize your media per Plex requirements. Spending the time up front to correctly name & organize media pays off in the long run.

Step 1: Rename Good Girls to conform with Plex requirements. The entire show, not just the troublesome episodes.

Step 2: Plex Dance the entire show. This clears bad information out of the Plex database.

Note: If you’ve many seasons/episodes, you can do a partial rename to test things, a partial Plex Dance if you will. Follow the Plex Dance steps. When you get to step 5, name and organize one season per Plex requirements, then put just that one season back into the library. Once you have things working, you can then proceed with the remainder of the show.

I could find no references to Lansky in the log files. However, the same comment holds for movies: name and organize them correctly.

Naming and Organizing Your Media

The Easy Button:

Q: how long did it take FileBot to rename and structure 241 SG-1 Episodes?
A: you’ll have to ask a Hummingbird - Humans can’t perceive time in increments that small.

Completed both tasks without changing anything, still the same error.

As mentioned earlier, this applies to all new series or movies that I add to Plex so it has nothing to do with naming. New episodes and movies that are added appear in Plex but will not play, error 1001.

All content added more than a week ago, when the issue occurred, seems to be working properly.

Other suggestions?

Poor naming may work.
Poor naming may work for awhile.
Until it doesn’t.

Disregard the instructions for naming at your own risk.

Thanks for jumping through the hoops.

It is an iterative process, and yes, a PITA. Nvidia driver updates and naming / organization had to be corrected first.

Play, for 15 - 20 seconds, an episode of Good Girls that works.

Play (or attempt to play) Good Girls S04E10 & E11.

This will let the logs capture a good playback and a failed playback.

Pull logs and attach.
