Error code -13 Plex app on Windows 10

Server Version#: 3.108.2
Player Version#:1.3.1.916-1cb2c34d

Hi

I am sharing libraries from my server fine with a few people. However, one of them can see the server and the shared files but it will not play any media.

We are on a network away from the server and my laptop works fine using the primary Plex account, I can use the windows app fine or the webplayer in a browser after connecting to my server.

When using the laptop that is having issues we get ‘error code -13’ when trying to connect this one user I share with. I also noticed that the device is not showing up in ‘Authorized Devices’.

I have tried uninstalling the app and reinstalling and also removing the user from my list of people I share with and resharing. All to no avail.

If anyone can shine a light on why this might be it would be much appreciated.

Kind Regards

Jonathan

Likely do to a known issue with indirect remote connections. But would need logs from the app to confirm.

You will only see your devices you are signed into on your auth devices list not theirs. It will show up on their auth devices list.

Thanks for your response and the clarification of which account authorised devices show up on.

You say it may be due to a know issue. I don’t seem to find any solution for this issue searching online, hence posting on the forum to see if anyone else is experiencing the same.

I hope I can get some understanding of what is causing this and a find a way to fix it.

They have an indirect connection because Remote Access is not set up well or on the remote end something is preventing direct access over open ports you set up, so it is using indirect access over our relay. https://support.plex.tv/articles/216766168-accessing-a-server-through-relay/

the bug with the Windows player is that it should still work over the indirect relay. However even if that was working the relay is limited to 2mbps. So if possible getting your remote access sorted so it does not need relay in the first place is better.

it could be that your remote access if enabled is not getting though your ports or maybe something like the remote location blocking outgoing ports that you have set up to use. ISPs sometimes do weird things so there could be lots of potential causes.

Remote access is fine.
I can see all the shared libraries on the laptop with the issue. But playback on this laptop does not work.

I am on the same remote network with my laptop and I can view libraries and play files without issue.

The laptop with the issue is using a plex account (my girlfriend’s) which I share libraries with. Again, they can beel seen but we get error code - 13 when we try to play anything…

I said it was likely I didn’t say it was a fact. your two laptops network interfaces could be set up differently, DNS settings could be different or a million other things like a firewall or whatever.

I said would need logs to confirm, else like anyone else I can only make guesses based on the same issue that has happened to others recently because of the bug.

getting this error. server is local with the computer with the windows 10 app is on a different computer on the same local network

just getting this on one recent episode

so no remote play issue. no transcode issue (all direct play here)
