Error: connection not fast enough

Hello

Some time ago, the Plex Media Server was installed on my Synology DS214Play NAS. Because I got some problems with playback like stuttering images and the error “Server not strong enough”, I decided to use an old pc as a Plex Media Server. I installed Ubuntu Server 18.04, put PMS on it and after some difficulties everything is working.

Today, I wanted to play a movie file and I got another error “Your connection with the server is not fast enough to stream this video. Check your network or choose a lower quality.”! As far as I’ve read and know this can’t be because of the installed hardware. I checked the Plex recommendations concerning the CPU before setting everything up. Here’s my configuration:

  • Intel Core i3-6100 @ 3.70 Ghz
  • 8 Gb DDR4 Ram

All network cables are CAT6. Does this have something to do with the NAS? How can I find out where the bottleneck is?

Thanks

And the server has Gigabit Lan? You also use the plex server as NAS? If so, what speed do U achieve when sending/receiving files to/from it? Can you watch other movies? What bitrate does your movie have? Can you watch it when transcoding to a lower quality? If so, what is the highest possible quality?

Both NAS and PMS server have gigabit ethernet. When I execute this sudo ethtool eth0 | grep Speed then I get Speed: 1000Mb/s.

The PMS is NOT installed on the NAS but on a separate desktop that is used as a NAS. I can watch other movies. When I test the same movie now it does nothing. I get 37 Mbps and it plays without transcoding. So I don’t know where this error is coming from. I almost never transcode, always direct play.
