This is ridiculous. Everytime a new desktop app update happens I get an error whenever I try to access live tv and nothing will record.
Streaming from the server to another device works but the main media pc will not.
There are several people in this house who I convinced to rely on plex for their shows and now I look like a fool.

I am having a similar problem on my server PC. I only use the desktop app to setup my DVR shows.
After the latest server update I now get an error when I click on the Live TV tab.
If I connect directly to the server interface through a browser I can still get to Live TV section.
I even downloaded the latest desktop app and same problem…
This is happening to me too. I used the web app until this latest Windows app was released, so I don’t know how far back the bug goes. I’ve been leaving the Windows app running for the last two weeks while doing some massive music library management. I started to have problems with my DVR recordings but didn’t associate it in my mind with my use of the Windows app. I only do server and library management from the PC, but today I tried launching Live TV from the Windows app. I could see the guide and schedule just fine, but it wouldn’t play any station. So I opened the web app, watched Live TV like normal, and started a recording from Live TV. I ended that recording, closed all the Plex apps, and just like that my scheduled recordings are working again.
I should add that restarting my Plex server and even deleting and readding my DVR did nothing to help as long as the Windows app was open.
The frustrating thing is I missed several recordings that aren’t airing again. All because the Windows player app blocks the DVR somehow.
I just did a complete uninstall with RevoUnistaller of both the Server and the Player and did a reinstall and now nothing works. The live TV and DVR won’t do anything. The Player won’t recognize Recorded TV.
I like some help from the developers. Do the really expect end users to solve these problems?
Yikes, that sounds much worse than what I experienced!
Alright, I followed the guide in the link. Though as I stated in my previous post I used RevoUninstaller which cleans the registry as well as deletes all directories and temp files.
Restarted system twice.
Installed Plex Server.
Plex Server WILL play Live TV and record DVR
Plex Server WON’T connect to servers on other devices on home network.
Plex Server WON’T access Recorded TV folder.
Install Windows Desktop Player.
Desktop App WILL access Recorded TV folder.
Desktop App WILL connect to servers on other devices on home network.
Desktop App WON’T play Live TV and record DVR
All I see is this message: “There was an unexpected error.”
I don’t know what to do at this point. I need the desktop app to do everything as it did before the update.
And now everything the DVR records has major artifacts and skipping. I payed $120 for this?
This should be fixed in 1.18.0.1944
