There are MANY factors that come into play in this use case:
- Dad’s upload speed (doesn’t matter that yours is 300Mb if his is 10Mb, etc.)
- Stability the BOTH your ISP’s bandwidth and latency
- Version of his Plex Server
- Version of your Plex Client
- Whether your playback device (client) can DirectPlay the files or not
- Whether his Plex Server HW supports HW Transcoding and what formats?
- Whether his Plex Server is fast enough to support SW transcoding (if format not supported by HW transcoding)
etc…
The easiest way to try and get this resolved would be to provide logs from both the server and the client.
