I have a couple of managed accounts tied to my account for my own server. I am trying to exclude a specific subset of content that falls into the range of ratings allowed for these managed users (G, PG, PG-13, TV-Y, TV-14, etc) on my plex server. For example I have a few movies and a series that I do not want my kids to watch. I don’t want to alter the actual rating on the metadata for the content for the rest of my user-base.
So far everything I can see is pointing to using labels for shared content. I’ve tried sharing the content, which creates a link the “account” has to click. Any time I click the link it just gives the error:
Oops, unable to accept the invitation…
The invitation was sent to a different email address.
Please sign in to the correct Plex account or create a new Plex account under the email address to which the invitation was sent.
I’ve tried logging into my account and switching to the managed account the link was generated for etc. I’m assuming this isn’t supported.
Unfortunately, it also looks like we can’t filter based on labels for managed accounts, only content based on ratings? The alternative for this can’t just be to set up an email address and plex account for my kids to use on my own server, right?
If they’re already managed users, you shouldn’t need to re-invite them. So not sure how you got there.
It should be “as simple as” configuring the library access preferences for those existing managed users in https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/manage-library-access
Initially I added them as managed users Plex Home (linked to my own account). Unfortunately, when managing library access for managed users, you can’t get granular it seems. I am only able to grant access to specific libraries and set a restriction profile.
So, I attempted to “invite” them using the very link you sent me. This doesn’t work for managed users without their own account it seems, despite showing them in the list for some reason. I get the error as mentioned above.
Edit: I just realized I was probably inviting someone with the same username as my kid’s display name, so that would be why it’s failing.
I’m going to assume there’s no possible way to exclude library access for Plex Home managed accounts aside from restriction profiles?
If you want to get granular with access permissions, you need to disable the age profile first. Save. Then when you access the restrictions tab again, you will have the allow ratings, deny ratings, allow labels, deny labels input fields available.
