External Display Scaling and Subtitle Issues — iPad Mini 7 (iPadOS 26)

Since the latest app update, I have been experiencing significant display issues when connecting my iPad Mini 7 to an external monitor. The playback behavior is broken specifically when using an external screen; everything works perfectly on the iPad’s built-in display.

Details:

• Device: iPad Mini 7

• OS: iPadOS 26

• Connection: External Monitor via USB-C

Observed Bugs:

1. Scaling/Positioning Issues:

   • When set to “Original” aspect ratio: The video does not fill the screen and is stuck in the top-left corner.

   • When set to “Letterbox”: The image shifts/crops toward the top of the screen instead of being centered.

2. Subtitle Glitch:

   • While watching on the external monitor, roughly 50% of the subtitles are skipped or fail to render. Again, this issue does not occur when watching directly on the iPad.

Came here to make a post about this, searched first and saw this. I’m experiencing the same thing on the latest version of the Plex app and iPadOS 26. My iPad is the M4 iPad Pro. I use it with a USB-C to VGA adapter. This all worked fine before the app refresh, which I delayed and was still using the old version with iPadOS 26.

Also, with the old app I could lock the iPad’s screen to save power but with the new one the video on the external display freezes even though the file still continues (the audio still plays).
