I paid for Plex Android and seems it’s a bad idea.
Any external subtitles are not working on my Android Phone.
On my Sansumg TV with Tizen works wheel.

Can you explain what you mean by it’s not working? I see you are using ASS subs. Depending on your playback settings, PMS will either convert that to plain text or burn them into the video. If it is using the plain text option, this can fail if there is a lot of special formatting in the subtitles. It also looks like your subtitle includes it’s own font. I don’t think PMS can use those, so that could be the issue. Would need to see your PMS logs to check.
If you can also send me the ASS subtitle, I can check that too.
When I say that it is not working, it is that on all other devices the sub is displayed, only on Android that does not.
Here are some sample images, the PMS log and the sub.
PMS: Plex Media Server Logs_2020-07-09_19-45-09.zip (5.3 MB)
Some Samples Images: Samples.zip (5.2 MB)
Sub: Naruto Shippuuden S16E327 – Nove Caudas.zip (6.4 KB)
Your subtitle file has the srt extension, but your file is actually in ASS format. Did you just name it wrong?
Not that I know. Does it make a difference? I can’t understand why on other devices it works.
From what you hinted if I get another sub will it work?
Yeah it makes a difference. Lots of other clients do not support subtitles so they get burned into the video by your server. In this case, it won’t matter. For Android, it does support directly reading and displaying the SRT format. But it cannot do the same for the ASS format. It could be trying to use the SRT file and failing since it’s not the right format. Rename the file to ASS and see if things improve. Depending on your settings, these will either get burned in converted to a text only version.
I just added another sub with .srt and it worked… Renaming doesn’t work… What a crap…
Do you know any good converters for this ■■■■? Or something that can be done in PMS to make it work?
Where can I find out about these limitations?
Thank you.
What do you mean renaming didn’t work? I forgot, after you rename the file, you’ll need to reanalyse the show so it will pick up the new filename.
I renamed the .srt file to .ass and analyzed it in PMS. It still didn’t work.
I downloaded another sub in .srt and it worked.
I found an alternative to make it work. After your tip I realized that if I lower the quality in the settings of the app on Android, I will force PMS to do the transcoding and the caption will work.
