External SRT subtitles prevent playback on AndroidTV

SRT subtitles seemed to work on Android TV up to about a month or so ago. Streaming the media is fine with subtitles off, but with subtitles enabled, the stream will lockup midplay. If starting with subtitles, the stream does not even start (doesnt show up in plex server or tautulli) it just spins with circle.

Switching to always burn subtitles works, but quality obviously degrades due to transcoding.

Playing directly from the Android TV app does not work, but casting from phone succeeds (shows transcoding srt to ass). Playing on phone (iOS) or macOS app with subtitles also works.

Please see attached logs from the android TV app. Should be one of the last things that happens in near bottom of log.

You have the option enabled to automatically adjust the quality. This setting is known to have issues with subtitles. Leve that setting off to avoid running into this problem.
