External subtitles don’t work on Chromecast iOS 2025.15.0

Server Version#: 1.41.6.9685
Player Version#: iOS 2025.15.0
None of my external subtitles are showing up when I try to cast to my Chromecast. All my .srt files are completely ignored! This is my second most used feature, and now it’s completely useless.

This has been gone for over a month and still no fix. Can we have date for a fix? Or if will be fix at all?

This definitely wasn’t an issue before the “New Experience” update.

I’m having a similar issue with Android. Same server version #1.41.6.9685 on Xubuntu Chromium.

External SRT OpenSubtitles work pretty consistently when I cast from chromium on my PC. They work intermittently when I cast from my Galaxy Tab A, and they never work when I cast from my Galaxy S22.

Subtitles worked consistently with all those methods before the app update.

First i had a problem that i could not cast at all (had to whitelist config.claspws.tv on my pihole) And now this. No subtitles.

Same here. I Can see from Plex Dash that subtitles are converted into webvvt format unlike previous editions. It has worked for years and must be related to new version. Casting from windows browser all works. Please fix bug asap

We are discussing this here as well.
This needs to be fixed!

You got casting to work at all?

I can’t. Since the new experience it just loads up Plex logo on the TV and then does nothing even when I initiate a cast.

Reddit is full of people reporting the same as me, surprised it’s not on here already.

Did you have to do anything to make it work,? New ports etc?

Same server version as you. Latest iOS and android, same problem

Are you using a network-wide adblocker?
I was able to cast after I whitelisted the domain config.claspws.tv on my pihole.

not sure if the below is going to fix the issue

  • [Android] Ensure shaders for ASS subtitles compile correctly.

Same story here.

I am just using the old app until they fix the new one… or if doesn’t get fixed I guess looking at some alternative like Jellyfin?

I’ve had to move to jellyfin because all my apps updated. Sad. Sad terms.

Although jellyfin doesn’t support casting from the iOS app, and I’ve not figured out transcoding on there yet, Plex is a great option if only it worked.

I got tired of waiting for a fix and migrated to Emby, it isn’t perfect but it covers my uses cases very well.

just tested the new update and it’s still broken
