I have two copies of Superman II, the original (Theatrical) cut, and the Richard Donner Cut. Each is in a separate folder in my movies library directory. The Richard Donner Cut version has some extras with it. I’ve had the Theatrical in my library for some time, but when I added the Donner Cut to the library it naturally got merged into the entry for the Theatrical. I Split them, and changed the display names, poster art, etc. to differentiate them.
The issue is all the extras that are in the Donner Cut version’s folder are still being associated with the Theatrical Cut entry in my library, even though they are not in the same directory as the movie itself. Meanwhile the extras do not appear at all in the Donner Cut’s listing.
I tried deleting the Theatrical Cut completely and emptying the trash to remove it, and then rescanning… but the extras still present in the Donner Cut’s folder were not picked up again at all by the Plex Server. I thought maybe this was because of the Theatrical being the first version of the film added. So I deleted the Donner Cut’s folder as well and emptied trash. I also optimized my database. So all trace of Superman II should be gone on my server now. Then I tried adding the two movies again in the opposite order (Donner Cut folder first, scan, make sure all the extras were there, then copied back the Theatrical Cut’s folder and rescanned). The movies again recombined as duplicates, and again when I split them apart the extras are being displayed on the wrong version’s pre-play screen.
I don’t know what happened here, but it just corrected itself.
I went back to the library to take a screen shot of the Donnor Cut preplay screen, and all the extras were there. So I went to the Theatrical cut and when I first opened it, the extras were there, too. But the screen updated right in front of my eyes and the (non-Plex Pass) extras from the directory went away.
I haven’t really looked at this since I originally posted this thread, but I did add a couple movies tonight and emptied the Trash. I’m wondering if this is related to the newer server version I’m on now, because I did try the Plex Dance when this first happened.
Whenever we talking local assets, do explicitly Refresh Metadata after making changes to the files or folders. This should usually fix it right away.
Sometimes there can be cache issues in the clients.
Do always try to go to the home page and then back to the preplay page.
Or force a refresh in the browser of the “web page”.
Ugh, that might have been it. All that back and forth in the browser while changing files and the browser was showing me old info. I didn’t look on other clients then.
