I am like many others experiencing extremly slow loading of the UI.
Was told that this was because of collections and the way the app should generate them.
So I deleted every collection and the associated tags but when opening the UI on for example my phone I still get this…
I have build a totally overkill Plex server and I run most things in RAM!
So I cant do anything on the server side (Please correct me if you have ideas!)
This seems to be solely on the new APP and how it loads?
The old one was instant loading even with 1000 posters
@Plexemployes are you looking into this? haven’t found any announcements?
Unfortunately, you’ll not get much interaction from anyone from plex on your post.
The underlining problem is the performance of their new app and their new UI experience. The mitigation’s you attempted may help (a little) but it won’t fix the problem.
Alas, you have two options …
roll back and only use the legacy app …
suffer with the slow performance and wait for plex to fix their app, there really is nothing else you can do …
Okay I just needed someone to confirm this…
I was afraid of this, I cant see how I can roolback since most in my family have iphones so no way to do that
Sorry this is happening for you. Not sure if this is helpful, but here I have approx. 15 iOS devices using my Plex server and no one is reporting this specific issue.
I use collections exclusively and flip between Plex client and a third party client, but use Plex enough to notice if this was an issue.
So beyond giving you some kind of hope things could work, the only suggestion I can give is to upload your logs (and look at them yourself), to see if some kind of underlying issue is yelling for attention?
Again everything was very quick and instant before the upgrade!
My collection haven’t grown since and I have the same collections (As stated before I spent 2 days removing Kometa collections and 1 day doing DB repair on a laptop to see if I had the Bloat people was having I didnt. I did get a little bumb in performance setting the Cache memory to 4000 and even 8000 that helped on home screen loading but I even removed all collection on the home screen to help it show up faster.
Logging was always turned on before and I used to access it through Tautilli now I have also revoved all logging on Plex.
I still think its pretty crazy that a i9 24 cores 128G ram plex on NVME and I feel lige I have this on a old 486 PC with 8G…. Sofar its on 4 different iPhones even the pro 16 the new iPad mini and 2 other pro iPads… So I am now testing Emby and Jellyfin in parallel and they run fast!
But I am missing all the bells and whistles but playback and scrolling through media works 100% I wish I could roolback but you cant do that on iOS devices
I just updated to the new Plex Server: Version 1.42.2.10102
And the loading (Just opening a movie to watch the details on my iPhone) is now worse?
I have the iOS updated running latest Plex App - Tried resetting the cache in settings.
Rebooting the iPhone, Optimizing the Plex DB.
Setting cache memory to very large memory.
And for some reason I just get the spinning wheel trying to load the movie info page?
Doing the same test on a Browser and everything works! Fast playback and also transcoding works fine (Edge) so whats up with the App?
I am thinking of trying to use Infuse? any feedback on running this with the new server?
One new “Error” if you get the IOS app to open the movie info page you get collections shown below! - But in the new server update using the browser or any browser I get a spinning wheel below and after some 2 min it times out and I get nothing? - Only movies with no collections get the “see other pictures like”
I totally agree if this was an isolated problem, but all my friend is having the same problem.
So I must believe that Plex is well aware of this, and that they are the only one who can fix this.
If any employee will want to test anything they are most welcome.
But I see no errors in the log …
NO I want help and the only one who can help me is Plex as a company.
Believe me I have tried this many times and these problems ALWAYS end up after a long time being solved (80%) by Plex either in a updated server or updated App.
I have two lifetime passes and have been using Plex for more years than I can remember, and delt with multiple problems, I am not a novice, I haven’t misconfigured my Server.
I read the internet and what people are doing before I go here.
This is last resort hoping that someone from Plex will look into this…
If they ask for information I will be happy to provide it, but this is not a community fix
