Failed to install Plex Media Server. QTS detected an unauthorized app change

Server Version#: 1.21.2.3943
Player Version#:

I never encountered problem updading plex media server via Qnap App Center i simply click on the ADD icon, select the plex .qplg file and lauch update but from the latest version i got this error

“Failed to install Plex Media Server. QTS detected an unauthorized app change”

It might also be an APP Center issure still i don’t know where to ask for a solution.

you are signed in as admin ?

Manual Install the file?

Yes im signed as admin and yes i download the qpkg form plex than i go in app center, clicck on Add App and select the file. The i click on INSTALL. Usually it works but now it works no more.

When is the last the QNAP has been restarted (Yes, i know they are painfully slow) ?

If it doesn’t go in app center, you can always upload and then install via the shell manually too.

Installing manually via the shell will isolate to app center’s database or the image

I reboot it today (just in case) but alas, nothing changed. I’m not an expert about shell/linux things so, there is a guide for shell install of the qpkg?

It seems i got the problem and… well… actually i found i have some network issue with may mac adapter. I got the suspect something was wrong cause all my last file in plex were corrupted. I found that the local file in my mac HD was fine and any time i copy it on qnap it was corrupted in a different place. There was no signal of issues on disk so i tried to remove lan adapter and copy files using wifi. The file were copied fine. So i tried to redownload the firmware with wifi instead of cable network and reinstalled it and it works…

The easiest way to do it is:

  1. Upload the QPKG to the Public share.
  2. SSH into the QNAP
  3. Now type these few commands:

cd /share/Public
ls *.qpkg
chmod +x Plex*.qpkg
./Plextype full part of file name here.qpkg

It looks like:

[/share/Public] # cd /share/Public
[/share/Public] # ls *.qpkg
dummy.qpkg PlexMediaServer-0.0.0.qpkg
[/share/Public] # chmod +x Plex*.qpkg
[/share/Public] # ./Plex*.qpkg

This works because QPKG files are self-installing

You will see it check the firmware version.
If everything is OK it will continue to install itself.

il will anyway preserver your guide. It might be handly if other issue may come in future. Hoping for the best.
