I think I'm correct in saying that if I use the (default) trailers app and my library includes FairPlay DRM'd content, ie; movies purchased via iTunes Store, then I *can* play those movies via PlexConnect. However, what if I have switched over to using the iMovie Theater app, will that play the DRM'd content, or will that only work if I use the Trailers app?
Just tested it using Season 5 of Mad Men and iMovie Theatre/Plexconnect will not play any episodes. Says “your Apple TV is not authorized to play this content.”
I can, of course, just switch to ATV > Computer > TV Shows and play it, but I could see how this might be a bother for those with lots of iTunes content in their Plex Library. In that case it is better to stick with the Trailers.app.
I don't have much FairPlay content, so it is not currently a massive issue, but as time moves on, it is possible I may rent / buy more from the iTunes Store, so this could become more of an issue as I'm likely to still want my media all in the same place (external drive) and that would include FairPlay DRM'd media.
Ah, thanks for the link to that. I have not actually tried to play FairPlay DRM'd files, might try it over the weekend (I got Hugo as part of the 12 Days app thing over the holiday period) and see how it works.
