I use an application (Sonarr) that automatically uploads my series to my hard drive and sends a message to plex when new media is available. The problem with that is that when I enable Scan my library automatically, plex will sometimes detect a change in my library and sometimes not. That’s why I enabled an option in Sonarr that sends messages to the server and informs him of new files on my hard drive. This can lead to fake duplicates (see picture).
I think this is because my server already detected a change in the folders and receives a message afterwards from sonarr that new media is available.
This doesn’t happen each time a new file is added so it’s difficult to add clean logs
Do NOT put TV Shows in the root of a drive.
A Library can NOT be the root of a drive - if you expect Plex to work properly.
You need a TV Show Library Folder.
You MUST name and structure your files according to the guide - if you expect Plex to work properly:
A TV Show Library Folder/
......The Flash (2014)/
........Season 06/
..........The Flash (2014) - S06E17.mkv
..........The Flash (2014) - S06E18 - Episode Name Optional.mkv
It happens when both processes initiate a scan at the same time from what I have seen. Of the one from sonarr is more reliable for you then I would just let that do it.
I have my media on a separate NAS so I personally just have PMS scan every hour without the autoscan. if i want to watch something right away I use PlexDash to scan while I am sitting on couch
The problem is that I also have a picture folder and that that one needs the option Scan my library automatically otherwise I have to scan the whole folder when I add pictures. (I also need it when I add movies/TV Shows manually for example) Couldn’t you just check before you say files are duplicates that the path’s aren’t the same? This doesn’t look so dificult to implement and it would help all the people who use sonarr, radarr, lidarr and other software that use the PLEX api to send messages that new media is added.
