I know I’m running 1 version of PMS old (why are they updating these almost monthly?!), but for some reason today I uploaded part of a new TV series to my server (into the correct folder and confirmed). It wasn’t caught during the daily scan so I ran a manual “Scan Library Files” - it’s till not showing up I don’t know if it will matter, but the series is “Dharma & Greg”.
Two other series I uploaded last week have scanned and been added, so it worked last week.
I’ve confirmed that the folder structure is correct (series → season → sxxexx.MP4), so it shouldn’t be skipping incorrectly organized content an they’re MP4 videos, of which 83.77% of my content are as well).
If there’s no file permission problems within the Syno… have you by chance configured your library to Prefer local metadata (=embedded metadata from mp4 files; see ⋮ > Manage Library > Edit... → Advanced)? If there’s some bad embedded metadata in your files this can mess with Plex and make it think this is an entirely different show.
In any case, I had an incident once when I was scanning for season 2 of a show but nothing was happening. It turned out in my case that I copied the season 1 files into the season 2 folder so Plex was doing the right thing and giving me multiple versions of each episode. Silly I know, but you may want to check that you copied the correct season.
tom80h - File permission should be fine - all other series are being scanned correctly, and adding the test libraries worked.
Fabulous - Good suggestion (I was really hoping it was that easy :)), but no. For one thing, it shouldn’t matter as that option not only states “if present,” it indicates artwork and posters. it’s not pulling anything up (not even creating a blank//bad entry). How do i attached screen images (non copywritten? I can upload images of all this
I tested with adding 2 new libraries (using an abbreviated TV show library), 1 with local assets on an 1 with them off. Both pulled Dharma in, although they both thought it was the TV Show “The Season.” I have no idea why it drilled down a level for a name :(. I had to manually force it to the TheTVDB database page.
However, even though both pulled the incorrect show in, it did create an entry (which I could correct). My original library didn’t even do that - it ignored that folder completely. I know I can create a new library, but now I’m determined to figure out what’s causing the hiccup.
You forgot one critical thing, I need the server logs. That will tell us if there is database corruption, permissions issues or some other cause.
The reason I asked for both the logs after a plex dance and a screenshot of the files/path is sometimes its an non-obvious obvious typo in the filename, IE S00S00, and it lets me know what to look for in the logs to find relevant log messages.
I’ll get the server log when it’s done it’s initial setup of the new library - it’s been running all night in the “detecting intros” (internet has been spotty because of storms).
Meanwhile, here are several more screen shots
“The Season” - I found out I’d labelled the season folder “Season 1 (##)”, where ## was the # of episodes, for checking rip results and forgot to remove the “(##)” before transferring. So, it’s now identifying the Dharma & Greg series correctly.
It still won’t update my original TV Show library, though (screen shot of it missing, even though folder content is as above pic shows). The newly added TV Show library added it without a problem. I just can’t get the original one to recognize the update on scan.
As I said, I’ll upload the server logs once it’s done scanning for intros and I get back from an appointment. I’ll run a scan on the old library just before downloading so that’s easier to find.
If you dont Dance the files plex has a memory of the files, and will sort of ignore them (IE wont try to rematch). When you dance them any naming issues get forgotten and the media is treated as “New” and fully rescanned/parsed
