Falsely displaying duplicate subtitles, one working and one crashing the transcoder on play

In my libraries, both movie and tv-shows, i encounter media items which have duplicate external subtitles. One that works and one that crashes the transcoder.

I’ve checked, in the media folder there is only one external subtitle of each language. I use Sub-zero plugin (GitHub - pannal/Sub-Zero.bundle: Subtitles for Plex, as good you would expect them to be.) and built in opensubtitles to fetch the subtitles. Refreshing the metadata of the item removes the duplicate, the problem is, that does not keep this from happening in the future.
So: why is this not fixed by " Refresh local metadata every three days"

setting that I have enabled and the “quick scan” that is suppose to happen when you enter an media item and how do I keep duplicate subtitles from infesting my libraries.

A word of caution to anyone that might have the same problem. Do not make a full library metadata refresh if you have upgraded to latest Plex Movie agent and have “personal media” items. For me the new agent fills up all personal media items with inaccurate metadata. See Personal media agent is broken
