I have a section in my Library of 3D movies. It would be nice if I could tell the Plex client when it enters that section to start rendering the menus in SBS format so they display properly once the TV is switched into 3D mode.
The popup menu when you pause and all other Plex-related items cannot be seen correctly once the TV changes, so it would be awesome if you could choose the 3D display mode and have everything Plex be in that mode while inside the Library section designated 3D.
Just a wish I have...Don't care about the menus feeling 3D at all. Just want them to display properly so I don't have to keep switching the TV back and forth.
I voted for this but only because it may be the only way to solve the problems of a 3D Display system that the Manufacturers butchered badly in their implementation of it.
I can tell you that the entire 3D revolution came about because after the Congress mandated the switch to digital TV that required everyone to buy a new TV the Manufacturers realized that they needed a gimmick in order to sell TVs the following year and 3D is what they came up with...When it didnt sell all that well they invented Smart TVs, Now they are making 4K and Ultra sets....
If they had though about it properly there would be no need to change the TV to 3D mode as it would recognize the content as 3D (and which format) upon playback and automatically switch.
Since they screwed that up this is sadly a feature that is needed for anyone who wants to view 3D content through PHT.
And it's not just a Plex thing all the HTPC offerings have the same issue as described by the OP.

My Panasonic Viera does recognize and auto switch on SBS... the problem is that any on screen menus not generated by the tv itself are stretched and split between the left and right lenses. The feature request is that plex osd content be duplicated horizontally as to display correctly when the tv combines sbs content for 3d.
This simple to implement feature would really make plex stand out. I'm sort of wondering if it could be achieved with a skin, but I'm admittedly not familiar with skinning yet... I might look into that but it'll be a few months before I have time.
It would be great. XBMC is doing it for gotham release, and Plex should really do it to.
Adding a way to tag 3D movies (without putting them in a specific collection or library section), and displaying interface elements in 3D would be great.
More than that, like XBMC gotham, Plex should be able to display 3D movies (I'm talking SBS here) in 2D when watched on a screen that doesn't allows 3D. Same thing for syncing.
