I would like to have the ability to set series as completed so they will not be scanned for updated files when updating the library. I have several series of which i have all the episodes (series have stopped airing), noting will change in those folders so Plex can completely ignore them when updating.
plus mention in the series view somehow that it is completed/ended…

Exactly, thats what i meant. I think this will speed up the updating process.
The update process first scans the folder to see if it has changed. If the series is done and you are not adding any new files, this scan should only take a split second.
If you really want to prevent any future scans you can create a .plexignore file to ignore that folder completely from now on. https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201375253-Excluding-New-Content-with-plexignore
using .plexignore will not really cover it, at least not for my part.
it is a workaround to reach parts of the goal, modifying a text file for each library/folder and adding all the series/collections/movies manually is not really usable in the long run.
and of course there is no way to see it in the series view of e.g. the web client.
but nice find though. this can speed up scanning a lot if configured correctly.
now if only there were a GUI for it
cheers,
Alex
The PlexIgnore was just an idea, but I do not see the need to do what you want. If you do not modify your folder, scanning them is trivial. When there is nothing new, Plex can scan my collection of ~90 shows in 7 seconds. Having it skip any finished show would save 4 to 5 seconds. Unless you have 500+ series, the savings is not much
Maybe PlexIgnore would help, but a GUI would be nice. When Plex scans my shows, it sometimes takes several minutes to scan series which have ended years ago and are completed (I think this is because the Plex server is on a PC and all the shows are on my NAS). It seems pointless to me to keep scanning them for new items which will never come. Maybe it will be a bit of an Advanced feature which will not be useful to everyone, but I think it could be a useful addition to this awesome piece of software.

That shouldn’t be the case. As long as the folder is not being modified, Plex should not be scanning anything more than the base folder. I would investigate and see of something is modifying your folder. Watch the last modified date for your show folders and compare then over a period of time. If something outside your knowledge is changing them, try setting the file permissions for the folder to read only to prevent further changes.

True, it is pointless, but it should be trivial. Not sure what is going with your system. And I guess having a button that you can use to tag a series finished so it adds that plexignore feature might be helpful. Wait and see what others think.
@MovieFan.Plex
It doesn’t always take that much time, but sometimes it seems to take a lot of time to scan a folder where there are no new episodes. Next time I see this I will look at the update date, maybe Sickrage is changing stuff.
It is not a super urgent feature for me, but making a GUI for this (and include the plexignore features) would be nice for the ever growing collection of TV-series.
