This could be a cool or stupid idea, you decide…
I share my server with a couple of my friends that are overseas, and at times I bring the server down due to work VPNs or traveling and they are left texting me asking if something is wrong. Because ‘I am such a good friend’, having the ability to set a server status from the menu bar would be really cool.
I work as a systems engineer at a large company, and whenever we do system releases we notify the users via a popup when they are logging in that the service will be down between a specific time period.
I was thinking having a new heading in MyPlex under the service name that says Status and is dictated by what the user (myself) enters. This way users can be notified of outages. Any other methods would probably be cool too.
Keep up the awesome work, you guys rock!!!
I would make use of this feature as well. Thanks for writing it up for me.
I’m migrating to a new NAS and doing some major overhaul while I’m at it, leaving Plex down for an extended period of time. I’d also like to set it down for maintenance, and give a message to users when they try to access the server.
Users complain about unplanned downtime (internet outage, power outage, etc…), it’d be great if at least when it’s my fault I can let them know.
