Feature Request: Add TV Everywhere to Live TV Dvr

Everything I’ve tested has been 720p and stereo audio.

I think Channels DVR is presenting itself as a web browser to the TVE providers. Most of those only give a stream of 720p with stereo audio to a browser.

As far as I can tell the content owners only allow 1080p and 5.1 audio in a dedicated app or situations where they can ensure a secure chain to the display where the feed isn’t getting ripped somewhere in between.

so they are doing something similar what playon does? Maybe a tight integration between plex and playon to expose channels?

Except Channels is doing it with live feeds + guide, while PlayOn only does it for on-demand content I think. Otherwise they seem to be using a similar technique.

This would be an awesome feature to have all of the channels in one spots. 720p/2.0 audio would be fine to be honest.

TV Everywhere integration with Plex DVR is a clear must have item. I’m just in the process of “cutting the cord” and require Sling, Philo, and OTA live TV. I love the look and feel of Roku but unfortunately, it’s not supported by Channels DVR. I recently started using Plex and it’s fantastic… especially with private multimedia integration with streaming services. However, having an integrated guide and DVR service, that just simply works, is paramount for a great user experience. I’m now considering ditching the Roku for an android device just to subscribe to Channels DVR. Hope Plex management implements TV Everywhere integration so that Plex becomes my go to platform for all media content.

Thanks for the information. This TVE is not for me then. Though less convenient, I would prefer to stick with individual apps to maintain the level of quality that I now have.

Quite a few people, myself included, have reported that the Plex Live TV and DVR features function very well on the Android platform. My device of choice is the nVidia Shield for playback and Plex Media Server for Windows.

I also looked at PlayOn. Great concept, but again, no surround sound. Only 2 channel audio there as well.

Bought the Nvidia Shield Pro and set up the Plex TV client to access my Windows 10 Plex server. All looks well except that I’m not given a record button to record any shows on the Nvidia Shield. My Roku and PC record just fine. What might I be missing? Note… since I already have a Windows 10 Plex server running, I did not set up a Plex server on the Nvidia Shield during setup. Otherwise, Plex TV works wonderful on the Nvidia Shield. Not necessarily a show stopper since I installed Channels DVR and that app works incredibly well for live TV, Sling and Philo combined.

Channels customer support said they have a basic Roku app here (non-certified): Roku

I haven’t tried it, so I don’t know what features it might be missing.

I’m not sure what’s going on there.

I do not have the Plex Media Server setup on my Shield. Unless you want to TV shows record directly to the nVidia Shield, you do not need to setup the Plex Server on that.

I guess you have setup a DVR on the Windows 10 Plex Media Server?

It doesn’t have a lot of the functionality, but for me it has just enough to use Roku in the rooms that I just need live tv access. I can watch some recordings and all of my channels that I tagged as favorites. I just don’t have a guide or access to the full library of my DVR shows.

I just found out Channels added this after being depressed for so long about Fitzy being fritzy. Would absolutely love to see this on Plex and would definitely be the thing to push me to become a full time Plex pass subscriber.

I would love this feature.

Would absolutely love this feature. It is the reason I left Plex for channels. I can combine my over the air antenna for my HD homerun, my YouTube TV and Philo all in one place. It adds commercial skip as well. Of course, that leaves out any channels that don’t have to be anywhere. For example, Nickelodeon channels.

I’d love to see a list of channels that do not offer TV anywhere, besides Nickelodeon.

Just downloaded Channels to check it out. I’m in LOVE with this feature!!!

Found this post and wanted to vote on it, but I don’t see a voting button. Was it removed?

EDIT: The vote button doesn’t show up on the iPhone but it’s showing on the iPad. Long story short, VOTED!!!

I use channels for live tv and shows I am going to watch then delete the episodes. For movies and shows I want to keep, I use mce buddy to remove any ads and move to my plex library. Works great until we get tve with plex. Hopefully sometime soon then plex would be perfect! I can only get two antenna channnels where I live so tve in channels is awesome because it works with Locast to get my local channels.

This would re-energize the LiveTV feature for many users who never bought an HDhomerun. Please keep voting! PLEX should want this for their users, and not lose them to Channels!!
