+1 vote for TVE capabilities in Plex
I’d pay for an additional lifetime subscription just to have this feature.
+1 vote for TVE capabilities in Plex
I’d pay for an additional lifetime subscription just to have this feature.
Currently use Channels for this feature and I would love to see this on Plex
This would be great. It would allow me to use Plex for everything
I would also like this feature. I hate having to use Plex and channels. It would be great to have this in Plex.
Thanks
I too would like to see the tv anywhere stations added. I presently use Plex for QAM.
Agreed. While I doubt Plex will add TVE (if you see the ChannelsDVR forums, there are always maintenance posts about certain channel issues and what not, but the developers are VERY quick to provide assistance to resolve). I think I might make a Feature Request post to the Channels forum to see if they can spoof an HDHomeRun like xTeVe does. Channels already has an IPTV generator built in, so it might not be a stretch in functionality.
PLUS, ChannelsDVR already works with multiple sources and separate guides (which is an outstanding feature request for Plex). I wouldn’t mind paying $80 a year for ChannelsDVR, but let Plex hook into it like an HDHomeRun (so Plex stays my main contend library). Channels could provide Plex the multi-source guide data (OTA, TVE, Cable, etc) and their HDHomeRun spoof could serve the stream to Plex when the stream is requested.
Count me as another vote for TV Everywhere. Like everyone else here, I too am using Channels for that capability (although it is pretty limited in channel availability with Sling). I used to have Philo and it seems more channels were available in TVE with that service. Anyway, it would be great to just use Plex for local antenna TV, Streaming, DVR, as well as local library management and viewing. Channels is trying the local library thing in beta (and only for movies?), but it’s pretty awful at this point. Maybe they’ll beat Plex to the one-stop media app finish line.
Yes, I tried the local library out and it was pretty sad at present but knowing those guys, they’ll figure it out and perfect it pretty quick so Plex should take note of what their fans are saying here or they may miss out on future growth. You have to stay ahead of the game by giving people what they want and the version of Plex live TV that was recently released wasn’t it. I can get the same thing with Pluto and Tubi with better and even more content.
They don’t really support Roku which is why you have limited use of the app Channels DVR. If you invest in a FireTV stick, I think you’ll see it’s app runs far superior in many ways to what Plex is offering and honestly, had I not already invested in Plex early on, I would drop using all together. It does have it’s advantages though, so for now, I’ll stick with Channels to do my recording, and like someone else stated, I use MCE Buddy to remove commercials, compress the video files to H264 MKV format at 720p and it moves them over to my Plex TV Show directory. It all happens while I do nothing too which is great and why I’d love to see it integrated into Plex. The only down side now is the time it takes to convert the videos in MCE Buddy, which is sometimes longer than I’d like.
With the recent announcement that Cable companies will no longer be required to support cable card and the fact that SilconDust hasn’t shipped a cable card tuner in over 2 years, this needs to be done ASAP. I just installed channels to test this functionality and its fantastic. I just upgraded to lifetime plex pass and now wish I saved the money.
I’m right there with you. I tried out Plex with the monthly subscription for a year and then pulled the trigger in a lifetime Plex pass only to THEN find out about ChannelsDVR. I love their TVE implementation and while I love Plex, i don’t really love how they are segregating their home users vs managed users. It’s confusing (one group can skip into, one group can watch together, unless I’m wrong but that’s the gist I get from the forums.) I can’t really confirm because if I mention it to someone to test it with me, I’ve gotten their hopes up if it doesn’t work. If I didn’t have a lifetime pass I probably would have switched to Channels full time by now.
The ChannelsDVR developers have ZERO interest in opening up their TVE implementation as a tuner for Plex so they’ve drawn a line in the sand. Plex is cheaper with more overall features, but Channels offers features under an annual subscription model that people are willing to pay for. I just wish I could pay for both and use one to control the other.
I’m a long time Plex Pass user and have seen many changes to Plex over the years. I’ve been a Live TV/DVR user for local TV since the beginning and was a user of the short lived streaming service they offered. When that went away I had to sign up for a different streaming service to watch the cable shows we like.
I too have been experimenting with Channels Plus and I like they way it combines my Sling TV Blue package with a Philo subscription and my Live locals from my HDHomeRun Quatro so I have one user interface for my viewing and recording needs.
TVE is something I would have expected the developers of Plex to have done some time ago, but they decided to let Channels take the lead instead. With that said, maybe it’s time for Plex to put on their big boy/girl pants and focus on something their users would really like to see instead of some of the crap they’ve added that I can get with Amazon or Netflix.
Plex, be a leader and come up with a TVE solution that will really enhance the Live TV/DVR function of Plex.
I too would love to see this feature. Since cable cards are not going to be required to be supported by cable companies I came across Channels DVR and it works very well so I have been using it in tandem with Plex but I much prefer Plex’s UI.
I have thought about the exact same thing! Channels be a “TV Headend” to Plex. It could even be in a remote location from the Plex server. This would be something to take up with Channels DVR.
I’ve been using TVE in Channels for a few months now and so far it seems good! But my main Plex server and my Channels DVR are in two different locations. So it would be nice to have remote headend capability.
I also would like to see this feature.
This feature would be great.
I also am using both a Plex Server for locals and a ChannelsDVR server for my Youtube TV subscription. I much prefer the Plex experience and it would be great having everything in one place. Since both servers are on the same machine, I can access the ChannelsDVR recordings in the Plex TV interface. TV Everywhere capabilities within Plex would be a serious game changer.
Giving this a bump. If I could vote multiple times for this feature, I would. As someone who pays for both Plex and Channels DVR, this would be a gamechanger for Plex.
I’ve used ChannelsDVR now for several months. LOVE the TVE feature paired with Philo ($20 a month will all the channels I need) + HDHomeRun. I currently have a shared library between Channels & Plex and trying to manage it between the two apps SUCKS. Plex has A LOT of functionality over Channels, but I find myself using the Channels client apps more and more so that shows can be marked as watched and deleted appropriately.
I’m fine with keeping both services (paying Channels for what they do best) and keep using my Lifetime Pass with Plex, but they just don’t talk to each other. I had really hoped that the ChannelsDVR devs would be open to embedding the ability to emulate an HDHomeRun so that I could plug that into Plex and have Plex get the feeds from Channels, but there wasn’t any interest.
I feel like there have been enough votes on this topic and time (14 months). At the least just say you will or will not look into adding this to Plex? I to use Channels DVR with TVE and my HDHomeRun. Works great. I highly prefer the Plex over Channels though. I don’t even mind paying the extra $8- $10/mo for TVE feature. I pay that now to Channels DVR. Then my movies, TVshows, Live TV, DVR it could all be on one platform. That would be such a great option.
Thanks
