Maybe there is a way to do this already ??
Sometimes when I add a video, plex scans and doesn’t get the info correct, mainly because I probably didn’t name the file correctly. So in my haste, I delete the entry in plex, forgetting that it doesn’t only delete the database entry but all files associated. Is there a easier way to delete just the database entry in plex, rename the actual media file and re-scan without loosing everything?
Thanks.
Easiest thing to do is probably to move the media file out of the folder(s) that Plex is scanning, then update the Movie library. This will automatically remove the movie from the database.
Fix whatever you need to fix, like renaming the file, move it back to its original location, then update the Library again.
Ok, Thanks.
That’s kinda what I try to do, but it takes a while to actually copy the file(s) to a totally different location.
Problem is Plex is pointing my media files on a Synology share, so when I drag and drop them it moves them (fast) to a different folder but then when the plex rescan occurs, it just picks up the files I moved to a different folder on the same share. So, I will just have to copy to a different share or drive, that Plex doesn’t know about, make my changes and copy back.
My other issue is I’m running 2 Plex servers, one a release version that the family uses, and the other for beta releases to allow for new feature reviews and testing. This last case I actually had the files in 2 different areas, I just got messed up on which server I was on. Totally my fault.
Thanks
Is Plex looking at the root of the Synology share? Why not make a ‘Media’ folder or something and have all your media files there? Then you can move files outside the Media folder, but still on the NAS.
I’ve never used an NAS, so maybe that’s not practical?
tlwangerin - This will be a bit of work but might be worth it in the long run… (if my assumptions are correct)
I assume you are putting your videos in a folder like this: \diskstation\videos
if you create a subfolder on the share plex can point to that: \diskstation\videos\plexmovies
Then you can create a subfolder called \diskstation\videos\messedup and you’ll be able to quickly move them out the folder plex is monitoring
