How to preserve metadata while moving movies to different folders in the same library?

Server Version#: 4.80.0
Player Version#: 4.80.0 (same)

I want to move lot of movies from one folder to another newly created folder within one library. There are lots of movies in the folders that must be mannually matched, such as the posters, names, etc because it can’t be matched in all available database even though I correctly labelled them according to the Plex file organisation rules… Once I move the movies files to a new folder location, all painstakingly matched metadata are gone.

I find a post telling posted in 2015 telling us that we should COPY the file to the new folder, let it update as recognise it as duplicate, then delete the old file. It doesn’t work for my case. Also, even if it works, it is not practical to do so with my massive number of files. Is there any easy solution for this?

If I may add to Tom, Synology works the same way.

If you have a large amount of data to move to a new folders on the same volume,
there is another option which you can use in conjunction with FAQ 7 to have Linux (DSM) move whole folders at a time instead of file-by-file.

Consider this:

Thank you your reply. I tried and followed the steps in FAQ7. Yet, it doesn’t work. What I did is just copied files from a folder to another folder. The files or the movies are manually matched or manually modified by changing the names and posters added. The copied files in the new folder are back to the unmatched state. That’s quite frustrating…
