I would like to be able to play local media from my Plex client
Current context:
I’m having a large music library (60K albums) which makes the current sync functionality extremely unpractical
If I want to sync an album, I need to navigate to it and click ‘sync’ and repeat this again and again
At his very minute, I have 116 albums on my player; which is almost 8G
Syncing this with PMS would not be feasible because it would take ages selecting the albums one by one and because the max size for syncing is 3.5G
Basically, what I’m doing is copying the music over USB, and letting another player discover and play the media
Feature request:
Allow the Plex client to play any local media by simply pointing it at either the media (movies/music) or at some playlists which is pointing at the media
I would love to play local music files.
I currently use a different music app to play music on my phone when I’m out. I am a Plex pass member and love Plex music at home especally on Chromecast and steaming if I have Wifi, downside is sync just can’t handle 6000+ tracks…
I think local music is the next logical step from video right?
It’s a shame that this feature has been swept under the rug. I would very much love to be able to play local media on plex for android whils connected to android auto. Alas, this is not the case.
I’ve been having so many problems syncing my music to my phone for “offline” playback and I have better options for putting the music on my phone. Why haven’t they added this yet? Note I wouldn’t need offline playback so much if streaming really worked on my Android phone (many bugs … for instance stops playback at a WMA song and you have to manually skip it).
I recently installed an aftermarket Android Car Radio from SYGAV in my Rav4. Added on a $15 128G thumb drive with all my music. Was assuming I could run the Plex Server & Plexamp on the device, but was saddened to see the Android Plex “server” wouldn’t ingest the local library. Seems this should be possible since the NVidia Shield supports a full fledged server. Is there a way to make this work? Ended up having to use MediaMonkey instead which seems to do a pretty decent job.
