Is Plex for Android unable to play local music files?

Four years ago, AndroidAuthority reported that “Plex for Android can finally play local files”. From what I can see, that only applies to video files and the phone’s camera roll though. Plex for Android doesn’t seem to be able to access local music files.

Yes, I can sync music files using the Plex Server, but I sync video, photos, music, books and notes using Resilio Sync. That way, other apps are able to access the files on my Android phone.

Am I wrong? Is there a way for Plex to access local music files? If not, why would Plex have developed this feature for video and photos, but not for music?

Not on an Android myself. From what I can find, Plex will only act as a “local player” for videos stored on your phone.

Yes, that’s what it looks like to me as well. I don’t understand why Plex would add that functionality for video, but not for music.
