PlexAmp - possible to just play local (Android) audio?

I’m a long-time PlexPass member (bought the “forever” pass years ago, one of the best $125 or whatever I’ve ever spent). I’ve recently had to shut down my Plex server and moved all my tracks to my Android phone (which has a ridiculous amount of free space). I’d love to play music directly from my phone using PlexAmp, as it looks cool (VLC not cutting it as it seems to re-assemble my 8k+ track library on each startup), but I can’t find a setting to just play local tracks.

Do I need to set up a Plex Media Server on my Android to be able to play from my Android using PlexAmp? Is there a better solution? Why wouldn’t PlexAmp just be able to scan the local system to find audio files?

Did you think about moving those files to the folder that the app uses for downloads? Then set the option to prefer local music. … maybe…

Thanks, yeah I had considered that. I was just hoping there was a hidden “find all music files on my device” button. But it seems then it would be a music player for everyone, instead of just for Plex users, which might create headaches for the Plex team. Anyway, I’ll give that a try. Thanks again.

Plexamp is not a local file player. It is a “Plex client”, which means it needs a server.
There is no Plex server for mobile phones.

Thanks Otto!

So, what is the best option for playing only audio downloaded to an Android? I like PlexAmp’s download capability and I can see that I’m able to go to Downloads and browse through Playlists but that’s far from optimum.

I know from the thousands of posts on this forum that syncing audio from a server to a phone is fraught with “issues”. The recent move to Downloads instead of Sync seems like a great step. Any advice?

Thanks,
Lon
