Why is there no local playback of media, including music, on the Android version of Plex. As Android tablets are becoming more popular, with Samsung, Lenovo etc this really makes no sense…
What is “local playback”?
Playback of media stored on the device
This is outside the focus of Plex.
Local media doesn’t have a Plex server which can index it, convert it, analyse it, fetch metadata about it, generate playlists with it etc. All that magic is done on the Plex server.
Without a server, all you end up with on your phone would be a simple “file player”. And there are already enough of that kind available.
… but my Android tablet (Galaxy Tab S8 256gb with SD card expansion) is as powerful, if not more powerful than many PCs being used as Plex Servers . … and if this trend continues could easily take over as the main computing device.
Downloading audio and video files from my plex serviers (Mac Mini i7, Synology NAS) is painfully slow - and not ideal.
