I’ve been missing a simple function to export the entire database and restore it elsewhere since day one. Many put a lot of time and work into their own media server. After a certain point and a certain number of media, rebuilding from scratch is no longer conceivable.
It should all work like this:
Simple import/export function via web
All settings, metadata, savegames, thumbnails, and intro and credits markers should be backed up
It should work across platforms, so that you can switch from Nas to Windows or from Windows to Linux at any time, for example
Ability to perform database backup automatically at any time interval (e.g. once a week) and to any destination (e.g. external NAS, not just local!).
I suppose what you’re asking for is already being discussed in this existing suggestion. The other thread isn’t limited to the database but considering all underlying / required files and structures that make up the server data directory, settings etc.)
I suggest you comment/vote in that thread in order to help us avoid distracting or cannibalizing votes.
Beyond that… Plex can already be configured to create a database backup. Those can be restored. But that’s obviously not replacing the platform migration use case of this suggestion and yours.
Before opening this topic, I looked to see if something like this already existed and I couldn’t find anything.
I know that the “database” can already be backed up. Plex has a different understanding of database than I do. The file size of such a database backup alone makes it clear that these can only be settings. By database I understand my server as it is currently, with all metadata, settings, thumbnails, scores, etc.
