So as outlined in my other thread, Plex Server is transcoding streams from HDHomeRun Extend even though the Extend can do transcoding. The reason I found out from two sources is because the streams are Interlaced and the Apple TV cannot handle Interlaced streams.
So can Plex please add a De-interlace option for Live TV to the Apple TV Plex app and any other apps with this problem? That way my NAS can have 80% of its resources freed up to do other things!
IMO the Apple TV player needs to be completely revamped and attacked in a similar way they have Android/Android TV by modifying the player with Codecs etc to natively play more formats. Now even my android phone can direct play .ts files from the Server with little CPU usage. I would love to see the same approach to IOS TVOS, Until then the only use it gets in my home is if the kids want to playback a movie. its ok for playback of media for those who dont expect much.

That’s not what they did. They moved from using the old android built in player, to using the new android built in player. The additional codec/container support still comes from Android. There is no new “better” built in player in the apple world to move to.

Not according to their own release statement. It is based on exoplayer v2 but they have modified to integrate and use the same library as plex media server
