[FEATURE REQUEST] Dolby Vision support for MKV [IMPLEMENTED]

I can only confirm that it works wonderfully on the Shield 2019 Pro. DV, Atmos & DTS:X, PGS subtitles, chapters and original refresh rate. I have now watched five films with the workaround. You have to press “Play” two or three times until it works, but then plays without problems (the refresh rate app is also a reason why you have to press play more often until it runs.).

So dear Plex Team  I’ll celebrate the day you get this working

Well this latest Kodi update cant hurt things. It’s all a step in the right direction! Hopefully Plex can add this to their native player for shield users and possibly many other platforms with Dolby Vision compatibility

There’s an open Pull Request to add Dolby Vision playback support to ExoPlayer: https://github.com/google/ExoPlayer/pull/7667

It’s happening!!

Nice - sounds like we’re hopefully not too far away from full DV support on Plex with Shield!

ExoPlayer master now supports Dolby Vision! https://github.com/google/ExoPlayer/pull/7667

Is master considered a stable build of the exoplayer? Really hope so.

Not sure…some teams make sure that master is always stable and deployable, others use tags to mark stable points. Although someone mentioned in another thread that they did create a branch that includes the update: https://github.com/google/ExoPlayer/tree/dev-v2

We rebase on releases, not master.

Its currently in dev-v2 (approved for release) and will be in the next release  So will look forward to hopefully getting you to merge it in - it is a fairly small fix

How often does plex take new exoplayer releases and update app for end users? Should we be expecting a wait on the scale of 1-2 weeks, or 1-2 months, or 1-2 quarters?

Following should indicate the scale of this problem and how slow updates it are.

Vote on here to get this happening:

I disagree.
That’s just a more general thread with no specific mention of Dolby Vision in the title.
The fact that one will/may lead to the other is neither here nor there.
Our votes are limited and therefore precious.
This thread has far more votes already.
If anything, if the votes cast in the other thread are specifically for DV in MKV functionality, they should remove their vote there and place it here (unless they have the ability to vote in both.)

The solution is identical to all our problems and more. Get Plex to update to latest exoplayer or even better switch to something better.

In fact, that thread is actually more relevant since it’s asking Plex to update to the latest version which fixes all our issues rather than just fix/improve one aspect ignoring all the others. That is assuming Plex even bothers to listen something they have shown they are not very good at.

Hope this mkv DV implementation will happen soon…Carry on Plex devs… Thanks

Exoplayer 2.12.0 officially released yesterday.

Vote so plex updates already and fixes these cores issues. Clearly they are more concerned about bringing out Spanish on demand content than fixing core issues lol

2.12 is not required to add this, and is not relevant to this feature request.

The whole thread discussed the solution, you literally stated you base it on exoplayer master releases, everyone is asking for 2.12.0 exoplayer update and google has documented this (and many other issues) as resolved in the 2.12.0 master release but ok, sure.

Dolby Vision in mkv support is not dependent on Exoplayer 2.12.0
