I just realized for the last few months my Plex DVR has been recording episodes I already have in my library for many of my shows - Magnum P.I., Seinfeld, The Jetsons, The Flintstones, This Old House, Star Trek, Nature.
When I check the logs for one of the duplicates created last night, I see this:
“Aug 31, 2024 23:19:27.552 [14540] DEBUG - Subscription: No match in the library for ‘Magnum, P.I. - E15 - All for One’, grabbing.”
Then a few hours later when my server does its regular maintenance, I see it identify that this episode matches one already in the DVR library and merges the two into one episode listing in the library.
I have “New and Repeat Airings” and “Detect and delete commercials” and “Replace lower resolution items” selected, and my Plex DVR postprocessing script transcodes from TS to MP4 using Handbrake. However, the overwhelming majority of these duplicates are the same resolution. I keep the episodes in the DVR library and do not modify them after they are added by Plex.
I saw the discussion Constant re-recording of episodes already in library that “New and Repeat Airings” is supposed to record duplicates even if it already has a copy in the library. However, I do not believe this. This is new behavior that started in the past several months. My Seinfeld and Magnum P.I. shows were complete for the last 2 years or so without any duplicates being created.
I don’t think anyone expects “New and Repeat Airings” to record things already in the library.
My postprocessing script trims black from the top and bottom of the video to save file space. This sometimes results in slightly lower resolution of the stored video than the stated. I ran into this bug ~2 years ago and a fix was put in place. Any chance this bug has resurfaced? Tagging @sa2000 since they helped me with this last time.
Any insights appreciated.
