I’m new to Plex, so maybe I just have not found the option yet, but all movies are displayed with their English title and sorted by alphabetic order according to the English title.
My library consists of a whole lot of foreign films, including japanese, german, portugese, swedish, russian and many more. You name a country, I probably have a couple of movies from that country.
What I’d really like is to have the ability to use the original title instead of the translated title. What I’ve done to circumvent the problem now is create an extra folder for each movie. That way I keep the original title and the order that I’m used to. Otherwise I can’t find half of my movies because I don’t know what they’re called in English.
By default, Plex will use the language you specified for the library. If you want to show the foreign title, you either need to have separate libraries for each language and set the language appropriately. Or you need to manually match (Fix incorrect match) these foreign movies and specify the language you want to use.

Of course! Why not have 5000 separate film libraries just so you can see the original (NOT THE FOREIGN!) title. I suppose is way easier than having an option - globally or locally - (having both is a luxury we can’t afford ) that displays the original title if any… :-w Come on!!! The man asked for a feature not a absurd workaround.
Your second advice, although it seems quite right and kind of handy, it doesn’t always work. The information (description and title) is present on the agent website (freebase) in the selected language, but in PLEX is still in English. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that on the agent database the language names are in English and in PLEX are in their original language creating a miscommunication between PLEX and the agent on some occasions :-/ I have no idea. Also, when it works, it also changes the description and everything else to that language and that might be a problem. What if I only want the name to be original out of respect towards the people that made it and not the whole description? If your name were Michael I think you would not be very keen being called “Mishelle” (with a French accent) but you would have no problem being presented in French.
One more general thing, “foreign” is not an “absolute” adjective. Is a “relative” one. A French film might be foreign to you but it will not be foreign to a French person. For a French person, an English film is foreign. Also, if a film is made and released in France, his French name is not a translation or a foreign name for any non French individual, is the original name - the name in any other language is a translation and is foreign. Just saying… foreign is not the antonym of English or American.
I went a bit off-track but I hope I made may point.
Anyway, djoris86 asked for a feature that might come in-handy in multiple situations and I vote for it because I realised I need it (especially as an option for individual items) and that’s how I landed on this topic. The sad thing is I know it will never be implemented. Don’t ask me how I know. Just trust me.

I just tried this on several titles and it doesn’t work at all. The language selector in this case is only for searching titles in their original name or other languages but in the library, the title will be displayed in the library language no matter what.
It can be edited by hand if you have few titles in this category, but it would be nice to have an option. Some titles should not be translated.
Yes !!! We really need this option. I have been manualy changing titles of “foreign” movies on my database for years now. But since a migration to another server a rescan has reset everything to english. I now have to manually change the title of about a thousand foreign movies !!! Please plex give us the option to keep original titles.

I have my entire library in my local language and ~20% of my content isn’t, so I fixed the matching, Plex pulled the correct data in e.g. English (non-native) – done.
I’m not saying this cannot be improved. but there’s a clear solution to get it done according to your needs.
personally I like the way Synology Video Station handles this. There I assign the matching language on a per-folder level – not per library. This way I can have my non-native content in a separate folder and match that entire folder e.g. in English while the rest goes along with my native language.
yes it is. I just want the original title. always. I have disabled “localized titles” everywhere I could find it, but it still shows localized titles. I would have to copy the name from the “original title” field to the “title” field manually.
Unfortunately. In my native - movie titles are translated in the way I do not know to cry or laugh…
I do not believe small checkbox, saving configuration item and another IF would be rocket science…

if you’re only looking for the original titles or titles in English… just tell Plex the language for this library is supposed to be English. That should result in Plex matching all your movies against e.g. The Movie Database in English language and provide the English titles, descriptions… – this will however require your files to be named in accordance to the English titles so Plex can match them.
When creating/changing your library… right on the start dialog it’ll ask you for the language.
I don’t mean to be a pain in your necks… maybe I’m a little thick but I don’t see the issue as if I want to, I can get all the English titles I want instead of my native language.

+1, I was looking for this as well.
I would love to browse my library using the Original Title, so American movies will be listed as their original, English title, and, for example, French movies will be listed as their French title - But after entering the movie page - I’ll be able to see both.
This is also relevant for translated titles - most American movies have a translated title. That’s a very nice info to have (and I would want to see it on the movie page) but I prefer to browse my movies library using the original English title of these movies. In order to have the translated title, I have set the library language to my own language. However, if doing so, I will currently won’t be able to browse by the original title, and will only get the translated title… Please correct me if I’m wrong.
As you may notice I am native Polish. On the sample screen you have 101 Dalmatians.
Two positions marked yellow “Tytuł” corresponds to the Title, “Tytuł oryginalny” to the original title.
Plex itself HAS both informations. Going further - all the movie data is downloaded in Polish.
I am soft dev - so having all those data inplace what would remain? As I wrote before - One checkbox within configuration “Use original title” and just ONE simple conditional IF clause using that boolean setting. If the application is designed in proper way that would be 10 lines of code at maximum?
Keep in mind, that regarding to subject of current discussion we are not speaking about “English title” but “Original Title”.
You can always say: "So if you have all data already - copy/paste original title and use it for a movie. Yes great - but Plex works nice with automation - so why should I bother manually editing?
And what if I have significant collection of movies?
If you are running a Window machine which has access to the folder in which the SQLite database is located, I can make a utility program that copies the “Original Title” field in the database to “Title” field for all movies. It’ll start by making a backup copy of the database, so you always can “undo” anything it has done. The operation (and possible restoration of backup) will have to be done while Plex Server is shut down, as Plex’s SQLite database is not a multi-user database.
