As a UK-based Plex user I’m really glad that in my Movies section I have the option to display UK (BBFC) content ratings for films (U, 15, 18, etc).
Well, actually I’m not that bothered whether they display at all, but if they are going to show I’d rather see the localised ratings than the US ones
But I can’t see any way to achieve the same thing for TV shows…
If it’s a show that has only aired in the UK there’s no problem, as it won’t have a content rating in the TVDB and so no symbol will show. But if it’s a US show, or a UK show that has aired in the US, then it will show “TVMA” or similar, dependent on rating.
This really bugs me. Silly, I know, but it’s just totally irrelevant information as far as I’m concerned. I am not saying it shouldn’t exist (I’m sure there are UK families who find it useful as part of a content filter) but for those of us who don’t have to worry about sharing our libraries with youngsters it’d be nice if there was a flag in the settings to turn the display of TV content rating logos on or off.
I’ve had a good search (honest!) but I can’t find any mention of this in the forums, so I guess I may be missing something (either a facility exists, or no-one else is bothered). Anyway, thought it was worth a mention… Anyone else agree, or is there already a way to achieve this that I’ve overlooked?
(sorry, just to clarify - we don’t have TV ratings in the UK, so it’s not a case of showing the wrong ones, I don’t want any to show at all).
Okay - so it looks like I’m the only person currently active in the forums who doesn’t like seeing other countries content ratings on their TV shows. Fair enough - I guess that feature request doesn’t stand much of a chance then
So in the meantime as a manual work-around I’ve edited the database manually and set the content rating field to be empty on all TV shows. Then I went through and locked the ratings field so it won’t get overwritten (I hope) next time I do a force refresh or update.
That’s sorted my existing TV. Now all I need to do is manually remove the rating and lock the field on all future programmes I import into Plex.
As I said in my original post, not the end of the world to have to do it all manually, but if a flag could be added (like there is for Movies) it’d be a big help… There must be many countries worldwide that don’t have TV content ratings, surely?
I also would like the option to choose to have either localized ratings like with movies or no ratings at all without having to do it all manually.
Being from Australia, we do have our own rating system and as such i haven’t the foggiest how to read the US system.
Even if it means we need to add the localized ratings to TVDB first I’d be happy to contribute the info for my country.
I’ve been looking for something like this too. I have just switched over to using themoviedb.org for my TV Show details in Plex as it supports content ratings for other countries, however Plex so far hasn’t picked up any that I’ve added. It either takes a few days or Plex maybe doesn’t support TV ratings for different countries like it does with movies, though I hope this is not the case. My Plex DB is running on NAS that is no longer supported so I cannot update past version 0.9.16.6.
Sorry about reviving a long-ago thread, but I’ve just been searching for this as well.
This is how I currently deal with this in case it may be of help to someone else. This is for TV Programmes, but Films can be amended in a similar way - en bloc.
In the TV Library select the Edit button (the pencil) on the Programme (Show) you want to change.
In the edit window delete the content rating data.
Press TAB or SHIFT-TAB on the keyboard (this is important).
The field will then become locked.
Save changes.
The reason for using the TAB key is that if you don’t do this the data does not change and reverts to the original when saving changes.
If you are changing Films (Movies), you can do multiples at a time by selecting them first. If each Film has a different rating you will need to do it twice. The first time to make them all consistent - it doesn’t matter what data you put in the field. Once they are all the same got to Edit again and delete as above.
I would also like to be able to hide TV show ratings on my Samsung Smart TV. I don’t mind seeing the overall TV show ratings but would like to hide the ratings for each episode.
Is there a quick fix to do this or will this feature need to be implemented into Plex.
Hey Nigel your solution doesn’t work for each individual episode - I would have to edit the ratings of every single episode in every season of all of my TV shows. That would take forever.
