[Feature Request] Improve Manage Recommendations

I wasn’t given a chance to respond to my previous post as it was dismissed instantly, so I’m re-posting with more clarity.

My suggestion was to allow users to re-order their recommendation for each library, what I didn’t clarify (and I should have) was that it would be for each library type not each individual library, what really sucked about the manual home feature was how messy it was in comparison to automatic, there wasn’t any real control over how we as the user wanted our home screen to appear, even adding the ability to merge library types would have been good improvement to the manual home feature.

As for the Manage Recommendations feature, I feel this is almost perfect, but it’s missing the ability to re-order each recommendations by library types, if anyone wanted to use all the recommendations for their libraries they would end up with the following, assuming they had TV as their top priority.

  1. Recently Released Episodes
  2. Recently Added TV
  3. More from (Network)
  4. More in (Genre)
  5. Top Rated TV
  6. Start Watching
  7. Rediscover
  8. Library Playlists (TV)
  9. Recently Released Movies
  10. Recently Added Movies
  11. Seasonal Movies
  12. Top Movies in (Genre)
  13. Top Movies by (Actor or Director)
  14. Top Unplayed Movies
  15. Library Playlists (Movies)

Now imagine wanting to see what was recently released/added to movies and how far you’d have to scroll/click to get to it or if you wanted to see recently added music, all I’m suggesting is give us the option to change the order for each recommendation, that if if a user wanted their recently added/released at the top, which would be more convenient for users, then they could, for example, here is how I personally would like to arrange my recommendations.

  1. Recently Added TV
  2. Recently Added Movies
  3. Recently Released Episodes
  4. Recently Released Movies
  5. Seasonal Movies
  6. Start Watching
  7. More from (Network)
  8. Top Movies by (Actor or Director)
  9. Top Movies in (Genre)
  10. More in (Genre)
  11. Top Rated TV
  12. Rediscover
  13. Top Unplayed Movies
  14. Library Playlists (TV)
  15. Library Playlists (Movies)

We could always change the library order so that movie recommendations are on top, but then we have to do the same thing to reach recently added TV, it kind-off becomes tedious, I only really use movie and tv libraries but then you have people who have music, photos, gaming and other type libraries, the more different types of libraries we have the more tedious the homescreen becomes to simply see something like “recently added”, this way users would have more customisation options over their recommendations .

Usually users complain that Plex isn’t responsive enough. You got a very clear response from Plex themselves – though it certainly wasn’t the response you were hoping for.

Not sure what you expect to happen if you keep reposting the previously rejected suggestion?! :frowning:

To avoid further jumping back-and-forth… here the previous response:

DaveBinM assumed my suggestion was to re-implement the old manual home feature, so you could re-order each recommendation for each library, that is not what I was suggestion or at least did not intend for it to be taken that way, I was referring to library types not individual libraries.

With the manual home feature you ended up with…

  1. TV Continue Watching
  2. Movies Continue Watching
  3. TV Recently Added
  4. TV Recently Released
  5. TV 4K Recently Added
  6. TV 4K Recently Released
  7. Movies Recently Added
  8. Movies 4K Recently Added
  9. Movies Recently Released
  10. Movies 4K Recently Released

etc…

My suggestion was to essentially keep the existing way we handle recommendations except allow them to move outside of their group type.

  1. Continue Watching
  2. TV Recently Added
  3. Movies Recently Added
  4. TV Recently Released
  5. Movies Recently Released

etc…

This is not the same as the manual home feature, which DaveBinM had thought and I mostly blame myself for not being clear, but I also didn’t have an opportunity to respond as the thread was closed immediatly, hence this thread.

If memory servers, wasn’t this the previous iteration of the home screen? I seem to remember my 4K movies and HD movies (which are in separate libraries) bundled together in “Recently Added Movies” etc. It would appear that Plex’s switch to the separate library structure was therefore intentional. So technically, your request isn’t for a feature, it’s for a rollback.

While I agree that some level of customization in this regard would be nice, keeping separate libraries separate is tidier, in my opinion.

This request is still very close to what was previously offered in Manually Managed Home, and is still not something we would do.
