A new feature request for the new continue watching algorithm, I think this is the only missing piece for the new continue watching feature and would make every plex users experience better.
I think Plex needs an improved algorithm for the management of shows in the continue watching list, with the introduction of removing items from the list and allowing people the option to remove items from showing in their continue watching list, it would be a great addition to also include the next episode of a TV show of an already watched show, Netflix does this by using the watch history to figure out what the next episode is and includes that in their continue watching list even if the next episode has already been watched, the algorithm could find the next unwatched episode or if all are watched then it uses the watch history to figure out what the next episode should be and return that, it all comes down to logging and using the logs to your advantage.
Currently, in Plex it seems that if you watched the whole show and you go back to rewatch it when you finish an episode the show gets removed from the continue watching list, I think unless the user manually removes the item from the list it shouldn’t just rely on the watched status of the show’s episodes, even if there are no unwatched episodes for the show after the episode just watched, it should still know what the next episode is using the watch history and display it in the list.
I know you can manually go and locate the last episode from the recently watched list on the recommended screen for tv shows however it would be nice to be able to continue watching the show from the night before even if it is a show that is being rewatched.
That is an option sure however why does the user need to mark it as unwatched just to have it show in the continue watching list when rewatching it, that is an unnecessary step for the user.
You could say the same with Netflix, if they said oh just go through your recent activity list and remove all the entries for that show then you can rewatch it and have it show in your recently watched list, none of their users would be happy with that. They don’t require the user to do anything for a show they have already watched to work correctly in their continue watching list.
As a side note:
There’s already an existing suggestion asking for an option to “rewatch” a show. I suggest you comment/vote in that thread in order to avoid distracting votes – in which case I’ll close this thread as a duplicate.
All good, I voted for the other one, however, that is still a manual step for the user to do and not an algorithm change to have to work automatically so same type of feature but different solutions, would closing this thread stop the algorithm change in favour of an item in the options dropdown for a show which requires a manual step?
I suppose you could bring it up in the other thread.
Basically what you’re looking for is a show to be considered for rewatch incl. addition to continue watching when you start watching some of its episodes.
So the difference isn’t all that big.
For reference… not all users are fans of such a use case.
There’s e.g. dedicated suggestions asking to ignore episodes in continue watching if they’re watched as part of a shuffle / playlist / …
