[Feature Request] Movie Extras Metadata for Display and Ordering

Extras often have naming conventions that are used for filesystem preservation and do not reflect will within the UI. Special characters not allowed in file naming are often used in the release naming of these extras, such as colons, semicolons, slashes, backslashed, and other punctuation marks. This can lead to organization issues and names that lose the intent of the original naming. Additionally, when naming extras like they are named in the release naming on the source material, ordering is often lost, without going through the rigors of prepending a name ahead of the release naming, so as to preserve order.

Example:

Features which have deleted/extended scenes in theatrical order do not have them in named order. In order to preserve chronological order, a prefix must be added to the file naming convention, in order to preserve the running order. Using the deleted scenes in “Alien: Resurrection” for demonstration, the chronological order is used on the source medium, and are presented, as such:

  1. New Opening Title Sequence
  2. Rude Awakening
  3. Ripley Remembers
  4. Cafeteria Scene
  5. Vriess’ Joke
  6. The General’s Quarters
  7. What’s Inside Purvice (Parts 1 & 2)
  8. Disposable Weapons
  9. Interior Chapel (Part 1)
  10. Interior Chapel (Part 2)
  11. A New Ending

Filesystem ordering then presents these in alphabetical order, losing the intended viewing order. Taking the title of the film, we already have the ability to edit the display title of the film through metadata manipulation to introduce the disallowed colon back into the name, and it is fairly common in Extras to see the usage of this, and other disallowed punctuation.

Request:

Add simple manual metadata manipulation of metadata, preferably through the same dialog-type editing available for other primary media types. Simply, the inclusion of just a “Title” and “Sort Title” would go a long way to help organize Extras and keep them clean and orderly.

Notes:

Please refer to my other feature request for grouping multi-part Extras (https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/316357/feature-request-movie-extras-grouping-for-multi-part-extras), for another feature that would help make Extras much more user friendly, without introducing a large amount of administrative overhead.

Thank you for taking the time to look. If this feature request interests you, please remember to upvote this post.

I know this is old, but voicing my support for this as well. Just to be able to edit the name would be great (I use tags in my filenames, so these show up as part of the name of extras).

Emby allows you to add a whole different set of metadata and images to extras. Would be great to do that along with reordering.
