Feature Request - Personal "Channel"

Sometimes, you don’t want to have to decide what you watch, you just want to turn on the TV and let it play.

What I’m suggesting is the creation of a Personal Channel that would work almost like a playlist. The easy version would work like this. You pick as many shows, movies, or playlists that you like. Then you pick how long you want your programming “block” to be. This would be the number of shows you play at once.

Let’s say you picked a five show block. It would take the first five items you added to the channel, and play the first unwatched episode of each one, cycling through the shows until there are no more unwatched episodes left. When one series ends, it adds the next show on the list to the finished one’s time slot. This way, it will always cycle through a series of five different shows.

For a more advanced feature, you could split the day up into different blocks, letting the channel air kid friendly shows in the morning and afternoon, and the more adult shows in the evening and late night.

This is better than a smart playlist for a couple reasons. First, while you can order a smart playlist by episode date, if you have shows from two different decades, it won’t alternate between them. Likewise, this would incorporate items from multiple libraries or library types.

This would also be a single button to play, making it easy to start it once you log in, and easily accessible to people that aren’t too tech savvy.
