There seems to be a feature where a scheduled recording will be deleted if the file is already detected in the library. I would like to request that a feature be added to disable this option. The reason is that for my scheduled recordings I also have an alternate source and sometimes those sources are mis-matches, poor quality or just don’t work but I don’t know that yet and they’ve already been automatically added to the library as the episode. I would like Plex to record it anyway, possibly naming it with a ‘Recorded’ flag so it doesn’t overwrite the existing so in cases where the alternate source is faulty I have the Plex recorded version as a backup.
Yeah, I’d like that option too.
Made the suggestion here:
That is almost what I want
I’m thinking 4 options would be cover it:
Only record if it hasn’t aired yet before (New flag on EPG)
Record if it has aired before but not yet in library (Repeat flag on EPG)
Record everything (new & repeated airings)
Record only new even if already in library (New flag on EPG)

Why would there be a New flag on EPG when it has already been aired before (because it’s already in your library)?

probably, he downloaded the version show from the states, and not shown in his country yet.

Good idea. I have my DVR libraries separate from the “normal” libraries so this “problem” hasn’t crossed my mind.
What @andyblac1974 said. Shows often air and are posted for download prior to being shown on-air in my timezone.
I agree that this is a good idea. I have similar issues when recording films. Last week I set ‘Robin Hood’ (2010 version) to record from the Program Guide so Plex definitely knew it was on, in fact it was listed several times that week. When I checked the Recording Schedule, nothing. Afterwards, I realised that I already have a copy of the Disney film ‘Robin Hood’ (1973 version) in my movies library. In fact IMDB lists 12 different versions of this story all with the same name, so the ability to save a 2nd version of a film would be a great idea.
