Folks, I’m bumping it up, because Plex seems to care more about not having duplicate posts, than implementing useful features, that are generally considered basic functionality.
Here are the quotes of my post, because there’s no point rewording it.
Plex players on Windows are sorely lacking a “sleep” timer.
It would be really useful to be able to set a timer, and the action that the player should do after the timer runs out. The options could be - Turn off the monitor, Sleep, Shutdown. The same could apply after the movie, the episode, or a playlist finishes.
If MPC-HC can turn off the monitor after the playback finishes, Plex players should be able to do that too. I don’t know about other platforms, but on Windows it’s going to be really simple to achieve. Then it’s just a matter of integrating that into the playback menu.
Let us set the number of minutes (and/or simply select “after playback finishes”), and then select the action. “Run a program” as one of the actions would be a nice addition. It would give us a lot of possibilities.
My suggestion refers to Windows platform. It would be substantially easier to implement it there. Of course, you can always run
shutdown -s -t XXX
But that can’t be invoked easily with a remote, and isn’t really an elegant solution.
Also, that’s just shutdown - you’d have to figure out something else to turn off the monitor.
That’s completely different to Android TV, where there’s a native sleep timer function in the TV, and you can easily set it with a remote.
Don’t you realize that I’m asking for something that’s mostly basic functionality ?
MPC-HC can play the next file, turn off the monitor, hibernate, shutdown, logoff, lock computer, exit program. VLC has an option to run a command after the playlist.
This is significantly more than a simple timer, but also relatively easy to implement on Windows.
