I’d like to request an option to add album folders to the Albums pages. It would make the Albums pages a lot less cluttered when there’s multiple releases of the album. It would also be nice to toggle that, at will. If you ever find time…
Pink Floyd
Dark Side of the Moon
Pink Floyd - 1973 - The Dark Side Of The Moon [1979 US MFSL 1-017 LP]
Pink Floyd - 1973 - The Dark Side Of The Moon [1983 JP Harvest Records CP35-3017]
Pink Floyd - 1973 - The Dark Side Of The Moon [1988 US MFSL UDCD 517]
Wish You Were Here
Pink Floyd - 1975 - Wish You Were Here [1994 US Capitol Records CDP 7243 8 29750 2 1]
Pink Floyd - 1975 - Wish You Were Here [1994 US Columbia Records CK 64405 SBM]
In other words, Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here would be a folders on the Albums page which would open to display available releases of each within, respectively. But that you could also quickly toggle back to display all albums together, as it does now.
I think that’s what I’ve been doing and I probably didn’t describe my feature request clearly.
What I meant was an optional level of folders inside of Albums. Right now, all albums appear on the Albums page but rather than seeing a zillion editions of Dark Side of the Moon on the albums page it would be nice just to have a Dark Side of the Moon folder there that, when opened, would then display all the zillion versions of the album. That way, there would only be one entry for DSOTM on the Albums page (a folder) instead of many. Then, if I wanted to browse for a particular DSOTM release I’d open the DSOTM folder to see them all. Does that make more sense?
Maybe this is a better example. On the Grateful Dead albums page I have dozens of Dick’s Picks and Dave’s Picks albums. It would be nicer to have just two folders there: Dick’s Picks + Dave’s Picks. Open either folder and all the dozens of respective albums would then be displayed and no longer cluttering up the Albums page with screens of each individual album. In other words, album folders on the Albums pages to hold like albums together.
I don’t use video with Plex but I would assume that’s how TV series would be used to hold episodes of a series rather than every episode of every season appearing all jumbled together on the same screen?
It would be nice to have but I don’t really expect it to be implemented as there’s probably not a majority that would find it useful. I probably have a larger collection of music than most, easily more than 15,000 flac albums over 1000+ artists. I would also need the option to flip between the two views on a per Albums page basis with just a click to make it useful. Changing back and forth globally wouldn’t be helpful nor would a settings options. In other words, when I’m browsing for something the folders would be nice but when I’m adding content, I’d want to see everything on the same screen as it is now.
Plex has been running fine now for several months and adding this feature might introduce new bugs that I could live without.
Gotcha. So really what you’re looking for is something along the lines of the recently introduced Multiple Editions for movies? If so, yes that would be very helpful imho and provide less clutter.
I don’t have any movies so I’m not familiar with how they work on Plex. I have multiple releases of many albums (including 16-bit, 24-bit stereo, 24-bit multi-channel, etc.releases) and my screens have gotten so cluttered that I recently had to go buy a larger monitor just to deal with them more effectively. But I wouldn’t want to lose how it’s done now either. Both would be helpful, depending upon the task.
