I’m very glad to see that Plex has added the Review feature, which is something I’ve always wanted. I really like it, but it seems there are some issues at the moment, so I would like to provide some feedback.
I really like the feature that displays the review time next to the star rating because we usually write a review right after watching a movie, so this review time generally represents when we watched the film.
However, since this review feature is newly added, for films that have already been rated in the library, adding a review now causes the review time to change to the new time. In some cases, it seems to overwrite the previous rating time. This means that my previous rating time essentially represented when I watched the movie, but now, after adding the review, this time is replaced by the new one, which creates inaccuracies regarding my watch time.
I know that Plex has a feature to modify the date you watched a film, but it seems quite difficult to find this option. It appears to only be available in my watching history on the profile page, and searching for a specific film there can be challenging. I suggest adding a feature on the edit review page that allows users to directly modify the watch or review date, making it easier for users to correct the watch date.
Another issue is that I found some TV shows do not have the Rate & Review button, while others do. I’m not sure why this is the case. Additionally, I noticed that these TV shows also do not appear in the Watchlist, which has been an ongoing issue that hasn’t been resolved. I hope you can look into this, such as for 喜人奇妙夜, 中国新说唱, 盒子里的猫.
Also, the preview box for the review seems to be excessively long. Do you really think this design is appropriate?
I have to say that the UI and visual design team at Plex has made some decisions over the past two years that I believe are not ideal. Some designs have made the originally beautiful and elegant Plex feel rough and unattractive. The design of the review feature’s display boxes on the detail page and profile page also lacks refinement. Below are some of my suggested modifications, and I hope the team can optimize these two designs.
I’m not saying that my designs are perfect, but I believe that Plex’s current design needs optimization and should be more refined.
Finally, I think you forgot to include “The Friend Zone” in the translation strings. Currently, this “The Friend Zone” does not support translation and always displays in English, making it impossible to add a translation. Similar issues also occur with text like “Video Playback Quality” and “at selected threshold percentage.” There are still some untranslated content within Plex because they have not been added to the translation strings.
There’s also an issue with the date format. It seems that Web Clients have forgotten to add localization support for dates. Currently, all clients using Web Clients display dates in English, like “August 11, 2024.” I have to say that for users in non-English regions, it can be quite confusing to quickly distinguish the English names of the months. Often, we can’t immediately figure out which month it refers to. I hope you can add localization support for dates in Web Clients, so the dates are displayed in the user’s local language rather than in English.
In conclusion, I still want to thank you for adding the Review feature, but I hope you can make it even better!
